Spring 2009: Your Expectations and Anticipated Series (was: Spring 2009 releases!)
Spoiler for The chart but without OVA/ONA:
Sadly no yuri shows for me.I certainly avoid all video game adaptations unless they have good first impressions. I also worried that 07-Ghost is a yaoi show like Yami no Matsuei, marriage between dark + yaoi. |

Sequels
Fullmetal Alchemist and Hayate no Gotoku are my most expected series this Spring. Loved their first series, so I can't wait for more. Reruns Haruhi and DBZ, can't wait to watch them in HD greatness. New Series
Not too sure

Let's see...
Full Metal Alchemist Remake - Definitely watching this, will be interesting too see how Bones approach the start. Shangri-La - Gonzo have been putting out some decent shows lately and this looks like being one they are going to put a lot of effort into. K-ON! - Yeah I'll give it a few episodes. Eden of the East - It's Kamiyama Kenji and Production I.G, need I really say anymore? Valkyria Chronicles - Played a lot of the game, this could be made into a decent anime easily and A-1 Pictures are a studio on the rise. Pandora Hearts - Liked what I've read of the manga and looking forward to this, Kujira's music should suit this. Queen's Blade - Guilty pleasure show of the season. Tears to Tiara - Enjoyed Uta and this looks like being a more fun along the same lines, Octavia ftw! Tayutama - Should be my harem fix for the season. Basquash! - Trailer was stylish as fuck, will watch a few episodes. |

I'm really looking forward to Tayutama, since I'm an animal-ears fanboy and so much of the promo material I've seen for the franchise looks so incredibly moe: http://moe.imouto.org/post/show/2192...-tail-tayutama
I'll probably take my usually approach of watching anything from studios I've liked in the past (Kyoto, SHAFT, A1, JC Staff, etc.) until word of mouth starts pouring in. Then I'll decide what to pick up. I do have to admit I'm also looking forward to Natsu no Arashi because it's by Shaft AND the mangaka from School Rumble. Also, the Fullmetal Alchemist remake just because I've heard so many good things about the original. Last edited by 0utf0xZer0; 2009-02-07 at 16:35. |

I'm definitely watching FullMetal alchemist and Pandora hearts...I don't know much about the other ones but I also got Kurokami and Toradora running, so I'll limit myself to those and check again once they're over.

UOU! Wait a second: this might sound rather ignorant but will we be getting HD DragonBall Z? If so: DO WANT! :|
Still, looking at the list I see quite some series I want to follow, especially the FMA remake.

You know what I already find refreshing about the upcoming season, even before a single episode has aired: there's not such a ridiculous number of sequels this season. That's the first time it's been like that for a while.
I don't know enough about the upcoming crop to finalize my list yet, but there are few titles that are already certainties, like FMA and Hayate no Gotoku 2. And I'll definitely be watching Natsu no Arashi to see if Kobayashi has learnt any lessons from his previous outing, and can actually write a worthwhile story to go along with his fantastic characters. (School Rumble summed up in four words: brilliant characters, awful story).

Stuff that I would watch right off the bat:
Eden of the East Pandora Hearts COBRA RAINBOW Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin - this one has some serious potential based on the brief summary. I'm curious to know who's behind the wheel for this project. Hanasekeru Seishounen Phantom Natsu no Arashi Stuff that I'll probably check on halfway into the season: Winter Sonata 07-Ghost Tears to Tiara - I don't know about this one. Tales of the Abyss has left me with a very bad taste in my mouth as far as RPG/game anime goes. Senjou no Valkyria One thing I was hoping to see was a romance series, but nothing really stood out. Hopefully there's a couple romantic hidden gems in next season's line up. |

Likely to watch~
Pandora Hearts – The trailer is awesome; it inspired me to read the manga. The manga is decent, but it’s much too fast paced. If the anime slows it down I’ll be happy. Shangri-La – Plot synopsis sounds great and I love earthy settings --- hopefully Gonzo won’t blow it, it’s about time they put out something quality. Eden of the East – Plot summary is meh, but IG is behind it and that’s enough to get me interested. Basquash – Trailer rocks. FMA – Wasn’t the first series a faithful adaptation for like.. the first 12 or so episodes? If so there is going to be a lot of retreading. Anyway, definitely going to follow it all the way. Will give a chance~ Phantom – Trailer is so-so, sort of Noir-esque. I like what I’ve read about it, but I’m on the fence. Guin Saga Winter Sonata |

Picking up
K-On! (Kyoto Animation): Oh, c'mon, you can see me picking this up from a mile away. ^_^ Natsu no Arashi (SHAFT): Interesting premise coupled with the possibility of Shinbou-WTFness? I'm in. Checking out Winter Sonata (Real Thing): Haha, this is my mom's favourite Korean drama. Not exactly mine, but I'm intrigued as to how this adaptation is gonna play out. Hatsukoi Gentei (J.C. Staff): May turn out to be a good slice-of-life. Let's just hope J.C. Staff doesn't screw up on this one. |
