OMFG!!! When the Wuller hachin, it's the same music than Fushigi no Nadia?!! When the legendary space ship take off?! Well done Gainax! I was so excited when hearing it!!!

... And like every1 opinions, the story is alas meh... And Mari didn't do much like in the previous movie, every1 hate Shinji, who became vegetable like in the previous story at the end...

... Personaly, i still think the second movie is the best.

Avoided the leaked script and camrip, and went through 3.33 a few times since. Some observations:

The Wunder folks don't all "hate" Shinji for the same reason, although in the short amount of time he spent on ship he couldn't realize that. After 14 years it's wide knowledge that Ikari Shinji was the "trigger" for the near-Impact, and could become one again.

The Wonder crew didn't know Shinji from before, so he's the goat who caused all their misery because he was busy digging some chick. Hence the cold stares.

Toji-sis was nice to him. She doesn't dislike Shinji the person, but still feels that he should have been more responsible. Shinji is okay as long as he can't/doesn't ride the Eva.

Ritsuko is actually quite patient with Shinji to offer explanations to him. He can't pilot his Eva anymore because, well, it's used as an engine, and he can't sync anymore. Wiping out most humanity because he was chasing tail, that's naughty and warrants a lifetime choker penalty (cheap actually).

Misato is now the ship's captain, so she's gotta act one, esp. when crew don't really like this new kid. Sure she would have been nicer (maybe not old time nice) if she had some private moment with him, but not at that moment. Shinji was too soon "rescued". Perhaps some Misato time in 4.0?

Asuka is classic tsundere. When she broke glass the scene clearly showed the buttons on her hat. The bigger one is in her plugsuit color, one-eyed bad-ass skull. The smaller one is in the plugsuit color of you-know-who. She's pissed not because he (indirectly) caused her to lose an eye, or having caused near-impact. She's pissed because he did it for another girl, and went into coma for 14 years while she waited and risked her tail to bail him out. The dictionary Tsun is to deny affection through reverse action. What a difference a Retake (compare to TV series) makes.

It's reasonable to assume that it's now wider knowledge, with Ritsuko's defection, that Rei's are clones and Gendo/Seele deliberately try to Impact. Hence the raised army of resistance. Also technologies now exist to domesticate the angels for human bidding. Wunder was likely once an angel.

There are sufficient and consistent hints throughout the 3 movies to assume the audience will anticipate a Retake/endless-loop scenario going into the 4th. Each loop leaves a deeper scar (one does not bury that many expensive failed Eva's; they're loop artifacts). Expect (but not guaranteeing) 4th movie to reveal that each Impact leads to a new loop. The only way to get out of loop is to NOT IMPACT no matter how shitty reality is right now. It'd be up to you-know-who to choose a new, repeating loop, or accepting the crap and move on (Annoism 2015). Shin End.

About the general reaction of Misato and the others towards Shinji...

Remember, they DON'T KNOW that it's him. There's a big "S. Ikari ??" written on his foot when they first wheel him out. Is he Shinji? Is he an Angel? Is he somehow contaminated by the Angels...? They simply don't know.

Well, this is a terrible movie that pretty much throws away nearly everything from the first two movies all in one go. Searching around on the net informs me that this version of 3.0 was a redone version of a script thrown away, and based off the shoddy CG seen at the very beginning makes this more apparent.

The following is pretty long!

To clarify from now on, the first space sequence seems to have been originally intended to be within the middle part of the movie. Nearly all 3.0 preview scenes at the end of 2.0 weren't in 3.0. I thought Kaworu prevented a total third impact at the end of the third movie when Unit 1 was impaled by the Spear.

Oh, there's also a new spear out of nowhere. What was the big hub-bub about the Key of Nebe- the thing that replaces Adam in Rebuild? Who knows!

Misato screaming for Shinji to finally do what he wants/needs to for once at the end of 2.0 even at the cost of the world, apparently doing that made her angry.

Oh right, Shinji. He was actually growing a spine, character development, all that good stuff. The song at 2.0 when he saves Rei was a graduation song iirc to symbolize this. What? We can't have that, we need him going back into the fetal position and being terribly useless.

The plot points to suggest that human souls weren't within Eva's within this iteration of the story gets thrown out of the window, I really doubt their going to explain Mari piloting 02 and so on. Onto more plot points, Gendo and his aide specifically waste time to see how the Mark 06 is constructed; this never appears again since Gendo is enacting SEELE's plan but plans to change things up at the endgame. If they were on such good terms, why did Gendo have to sneak around again?

If SEELE were apparently the freaking PATRIOTS from Metal Gear, and really only Gendo and his BFF were in charge why didn't Misato's crew just steam roll the place? Mari pinned down Not.Rei, Kaworu didn't have a suit since it apparently turned into pixie dust with the spears between movies, there was no opposition.

The writing is pretty bad as well "Help me stupid shinji!" *LASERS* next scenes with Asuka "GO DIE BRAT"

I was expecting some kind of twist, such as the original Shinji is dead or some crap because they had to mercy kill him somehow, and everyone was rightfully on edge when suddenly he pops out again. But nope, instead we get terrible pacing, terrible context, off screen deaths, and plot retardation.

I like how Misato and the gang are all still alive despite being at ground zero, yet everyone else is kinda dead? Also, if Shinji didn't do anything at the end of 2.0 the world would have been screwed irregardless, "GO PILOT ROBOT THAT YOU OR WE HAVE NO COMPLETE IDEA OF HOW IT OPERATES AND SAVE THE WORLD." "YEAH, SCREW THE WORLD, DO WHAT YOU WANT FOR ONCE." "We freaking hate you now and we aren't going to explain ANYTHING and probably deserve to be killed brutally."

Also screw that piano scene, it was ridiculously too long and unnecessary, what was with the ponies? What fangirl wrote this crap? Shinji is barely tapping insecurely on the piano, then suddenly "YEAH MAN, HOW CAN I BRING OUT MY JAM?"

I know Shinji's 14 years old thrust in the future, but common ask freaking questions dude. I would have much preferred if Kaworu kidnapped him from Misato's cabin of fun, where asking questions and receiving answers isn't allowed (Ritsuko even turned off the screen effectively saying "Shut up", why was it even a surprise that Shinji would go "Screw this. I am out."); back onto my previous point; Kaworu taking Shinji throughout the areas of third impact and explaining things along the way would have been more better than EVERYTHING in between Shinji arriving at nerv, and things being explained.

and finally Shinji had the balls / tantrum to say "screw you dad" in 2.0, and go against his fathers designs? Yet in 3.0, "You go pilot 13 with this guy." "k."

Terrible, terrible, terrible movie.

Did I mention the pacing sucked?

I was going to order (import) 3.33 just because I liked the first two movies, despite the outrageous price, but screw that noise. This thing is like the Matrix 2.

You wrote the a nice summery, there. Back in the old years, when I heard of the news, that an alternative ending with four movies will be made I thought "I hope they will answer most questions and compose a more understandable ending." After watching the third movie, I had doubt, that I will understand it in all aspects.

Wow...that was something . Might take a while to completely take in just what happened there.

So yeah...that just happened. I think next time Shinji is going to do anything Misato might want to qualify "do it for yourself and not for others" with "but don't end the world while you are doing it!" I just found the first part a bit hilarious since it's kind of Misato's fault.

But what a mess, find out the world nearly got destroyed at the end of the second movie and nearly followed that up with finishing the job. Not at all surprised Shinji went along with that escape. While it's understandable that a lot of people would be upset after all those deaths, it's not like there is a good list of people to blame ahead of him. No point complaining now that he didn't make the perfect decisions that would have lead to a better result.

It was weird in a lot of ways (though might be an obvious statement). All that time spent in the desolate NERV HQ. Do feel like a lot of it could have been cut to focus more elsewhere. Like the state of the world, how people survived, etc. Just jumping 14 years into the future requires a bit of explanation and focus.

The Shinji and Kaworu moments weren't bad though. Though might have been because he was the only one who wasn't actively pissed at Shinji or just ignoring him. In the end that guy did do everything he could to help Shinji out and did make the attempt to stop him from making the big mistake he made this movie.

Honestly felt really bad for Shinji in this one. One moment you are just trying to save someone, then you wake up and time has passed, plus the world hates you. Only keeps going downhill after finding out his actions despite the motivations caused so much death and destruction. Not surprising that he'd first shut down and then jump onto the only possible hope he has for things to turn out alright.

A strange ending to be sure with Asuka, Rei 2.0, and a lifeless Shinji walking off into the distance. In the end Asuka of course couldn't leave him behind. And now I really have no clue what the next movie will do. Things went so completely in another direction here that I can't even begin to figure it all out.

But hey, the action was certainly there . And in the end I didn't hate it. Just would have had things go differently.

No, this is what most people EXPECT, because frankly we need the info on what happened in those 14 years that caused everyone to be so bitter and angry (okay, near-apocalypse can do that, but it can't be the only reason right?). Also it's just another way for Anno/Studio Khara to make money off the franchise. :P

If I'm not mistaken the inverted pyramid has the Nerv HQ within it. They seem to have carved that portion out and suspended it in the sky with the pillar leading straight down to Central Dogma....that's where Shinji is seen walking down the flight of stairs along the side with Kaworu and sees for himself what the surface world has become.

No idea what the sphere is. The Moon maybe, but isn't it too close for comfort? It's rotating pretty fast, too.

We're seeing the aftermath after all. Much like Shinji, we're going in blind, which makes thematic sense, but narrative-wise just makes for a whole lot of confusion. To me it just feels like King Crimson did something to the timeline, but instead of 10 seconds, the Stand cut out 14 years.

All I can hope for now is that 4.0 fixes it somehow, but I'm not optimistic. That being said, I still enjoyed 3.0 even if it was full of flaws. It felt like they took a mediocre fanfiction and put it to animation.
