After a huge hiatus from my part (had a lousy couple of months, now I'm back on track), Animesuki karaoke competition is back! Time to dust off that mic/lyrics/music/etc and start recording!

As always, here are the rules.

1. Anime OP/ED songs as well as character songs are allowed. Anything else, ask me first.
2. Song has to be in full-lenght (no tv version).
3. If possible, use the official karaoke version. You can also rip the vocals. Worst-case is singing over the original (your voice has to be louder than the original singer's voice). If you have trouble with the official karaoke track, ask me.
4. Song has to be recorded in one go. That means no cut-and-paste anything.
5. No special effects of any kind, including modulation, special effects, or pitch tweaking. Did I mention no special effects of any kind?
6. Song can be in any language.
7. Only one song per person.

Deadline for entries will be October 2nd.

I am still working on the broadcast details (hopefully I'll be able to secure a server) and will post details. I am hoping to broadcast it on October 4th.

When you are sending me an entry, make sure that the label contains your nickname, name of the song and where it is from. Don't make me hunt you down and/or check where the song is from, etc. I'm far too lazy and might "accidentally" delete the entry.

You can send the entries to kcl822@gmail.com as well as any questions, or anything else. You can also ask in this thread as I am sure there are many veterans that can answer your questions.

As for voting method, I am still trying to come up with something that will be satisfactory, so check back for more info~

less than 3 weeks at a time when peeps have just gone back to school/uni, wonder if that's enough notice :\
I did read the last 10 pages or so of the 7th competition, it seems interesting, not to mention that this is the 8th, means it must be pretty successful

Anyways, watching this space...

Would be great if we could get the competition advertised on the main AnimeSuki page, and perhaps a global forum sticky. Last time around, the participation wasn't that great.

Also, can anyone offer any tips for mixing vocals with the instrumental track? I'd appreciate it.

You can use a sound program called 'audacity' (or any other kind)

Open the instrumental via the program and it'll create one audio track for it.
Hit 'record', sing in time and your voice will be captured on a second track below it.

But playing them will mix the two so you can hear your voice in time with the intrumental, then save to mp3 and give to kcl.

oh..
save as .mp3 or .ogg or .wav (not reccomended tho, lol)
save as stereo on 44100hz or mono is fine...?

Or am i being too particular here, not sure what format past entries were saved in >.>

PS: when i say 'track' think of it in Photoshop terms as 'layers', seperate elements of audio that all combine together when listening on playback.

Can we have a list of the songs that have already been used in the previous competitions? Just to make sure we don't end up picking songs that have already been chosen...

Have a look through the previous contest threads. I think someone posted a list at one point, if not maybe someone will go through and compile one for you in this thread...

Will their be non-competing entries again? I'm studying in Japan right now, and have no access to my recording equipment, but I have some recordings made in the past the don't adhere to the contest rules.

About non-competing entries, yes you can send me up to 2 tracks.

About drama/game songs: drama tracks are allowed *as long as there is an anime counterpart*.
As for game songs, those are allowed because I said so.

I forgot to mention what format the songs has to be in-- please send them as an mp3 files as that's the easiest way for me to keep track of. Blame microsoft for that.
