Thanks for this recommendation guys; I really like this 'application of modern world knowledge' genre of novels, and the English character names help me enjoy it even more. Binge read all the translated chapters in one day.

What is the whole 'witches' extreme suffering at their coming-of-age' about? How did Anna get past it (if she already did)?

Actually the witch suffering at their coming-of-age is a small part of a more complex plot line. This was, for me at least, a plus in regards to the novel because some of the simple things that you see happening in the story have a deeper meaning, which unfortunately chinese writers aren't known for creating deep and intricate connections. (if you read most type of wuxia or xinxia or other xia xia you would know what I mean by that )

Basically they suffer so much because they aren't using their power as much as possible daily. The more they use it, the better off they will be when their "coming of age" moment comes. Anna was a happy case because prior to her "coming of age" she participated in tough battle where she exhausted most of her power. That battle coupled with the fact that Anna used her ability daily without pause since the MC saved her made it so that when the time came she basically had 0 pain from her "awakening"(you'll know what I mean by that when you read the chapter, which will be soon, I think between 10 or 20 more to go from the point where the translations is at today -ch 47-).
A good visual comparison is a balloon that is constantly filled with water. The balloon being the witches and the water being "mana". The water never stops purring in every day so when they don't let out at least more then what comes in daily then the pain settles in. This effect over time stacks and weakens the balloon and when that "special" time comes then if the balloon is weakened and if it's also overfilled then most likely it bursts.

The surprise came when I found out that the church isn't doing what they are doing for no reason. "They aren't evil for no good reason." They have their own set of rules of what is right or wrong and they actually know that what they are doing is "the wrong thing but for the right reasons"(or so they think).

The church made a "calculated" move when they made witches heretics and forced the belief of "the devil" on the masses in order to persecute them. One of the reasons is to make them hide themselves and not use their powers because they do actually know what effects this will have on them (the effect that was mentioned above. This keeps them weak and divided and also creates self victimization (ex: a girl that gets the power of a witch and is instilled with the belief that those powers come from the devil will most likely not use their power due to fear or some might even run to the church thinking that they will save their soul). Another reason is to make people think that witches have no value or even worst, they are a plague so most of them won't think to protect a witch for their ability and some won't even protect her if she is part of the family and this gives the church monopoly over the witch "resource".

There are a few more reason to add to this list but they are not fully explained. One is a coming battle that the church is preparing for and what we learned from a few fragments of history is that the battle was fought at least one more time before and the last battle was lost. In that battle the witches fought alongside normal people so at least we know that then they were not persecuted and most likely they had a better grasp on their power hence why the church knows some details about the power of the witches. What we don't know is what happened after that "war" but we do have a reason as to why the church hunts for the witches now. Their "pope" cites some kind of prophecy of this upcoming battle and they don't think that they have any chance to win if they fight alongside the witches again. Their "prophecy" demands that they need to unite all the kingdoms before this battle if they desire to resist the upcoming war. The church also is preparing an elite type of army that is formed out of the soldiers that survive a infusion with the blood of the witches that reached a certain age. The rate survivability of this infusion is low and they get between 2 - 4 blood infusions from a witch.

The elite warriors of the church have superhuman strength and agility and feel no pain. There is a comparison as to how much stronger one elite warrior is then a normal human but I don't remember it exactly, what I remember though is that one normal elite warrior (because the power of the elite warrior is always based on the former human host power) can face of against a mutated creature (this are the hybrid corrupted animals that have different parts from different species, the chimeras) one on one and have a decent chance to win.

Personally I think that the plot is one layer deeper then this and the "enemy" that humanity fought infiltrated humanity ranks some time after the battle (most likely they couldn't finish and claim total victory because of their heavy loses or so I speculate). So while they gather their strength back they convinced the church or some people up top that the next battle can't be won if they stick to the old ways (to fight alongside the witches), and they convinced them of this "new plan" where the church turned against the witches and the church created conflict in the kingdoms with the intent of them gaining power, destroying the royal families and uniting and ruling over all the kingdoms. In other words it's a divide and conquer plot where this unknown enemy comes on top because of the foolishness of the church that choose to throw a hail marry instead of consolidating their strength since that last battle. Those elite soldiers also lose their reason with time and become like puppets that only listen to orders of particular people and have no thoughts of their own so imagine if the pope, or the one in charge of the church, pulls a "emperor Palpatine" act on all the others. (again, this last paragraph is my own speculation, nothing more).
Wonder if the author will go one layer deeper then this and tie up the prologue with the entire story. Maybe later on in the story it will be revealed that someone does indeed watch over their world and this someone in order to give the "humans" a fighting chance against this currently unknown foe they are awakening this powers in this women. And after they saw the deception this unknowns succeeded to pull off after the last war this someone decided to take a gamble and steal a soul from another world. And that is the reason our MC woke up directly in front of a "witch" right when he needed to make a decision. He inherited a position of power because he needed to have that power in order to implement his knowledge swiftly and he needed to be in a place where the church will not notice those changes quickly. And that would be why this entity choose to send him in place of the 4th prince right at that moment. Again, speculations, but one can only dream

I tought church is the enemy. And witches faction is the one or part of large faction that fighting church.

and as far as I read there are many church fighting for hegemony of land in past and current church is winner.

everyone has their own witch.. and in last stage of war some faction conduct experiment with witch power. they succeeded but pay the hefty price and died out. thus current church is the winner.. they build their force steadily and witch persecution was declared in fear other church remnant use witch against them

There are parts that are right and parts that are a mix of a few things that lead to the wrong conclusion

Most people aren't against the Church, only a few find out part of the intention of the church. Even the 4th prince father, the king was loyal to the Church. But as I said, right or wrong, evil or not evil the church has it's own intention and goals.

The witches aren't fighting the Church directly, they don't have the power to do that and the most power, that we know of so far, the witches gathered is with the help of the 5th Princess, the younger sister of the MC.

The true history of the land is murky, we have snippets of it here and there but the one thing that is know for certain is that at some point in time the true history has been suppressed. hidden and changed. There is mention of wars between churches but I can't remember if that is a speculation on the part of a character or if that is what it says in a old document that contains the true history. Anyway, even if it's part of the true history we don't know if those churches weren't part at some point in time of the same church and later on they separated and fought for power.

And the last "and witch persecution was declared in fear other church remnant use witch against them" idea I think is based on what the MC said at one point in the story, which is close but not correct. He mentions that if the church is to say that the witches have their power bestowed to them from God then problems will arise when witches will be born in other lands that isn't under their power. Those other people then could challenge the Church faith saying that their God bestowed power to their witches and hence shake the fundamental belief of the single true God. But at the time the MC mentions this he doesn't know that the Church is gathering witches and using them as sacrifices in order to bolster their elite army, even till the last chapter the MC still doesn't know this so he just speculated on what the most probable reason the Church had in order to make the decision to declare the witches heretics based on his current knowledge of he situation.

But no, the Church doesn't fear the power of the witches because they have good countermeasure against them. The only type of witch they are weary of is the witch that can directly enchant it's own strength because against them the "god stone" doesn't work properly but even then, those witches are very, very rare and it takes at most 2-3 elite warriors to deal with them so you see why they have no fear of the power of the witches. Wonder what they will think after they see exactly how our MC made use of them, or I wonder what they will do when they learn that their power can improve because I don't think that witches in the past could do that at the rate the witches that are with the MC do. They need knowledge to upgrade their power so we can see why they didn't have such big leaps in power till now.

I got my conclusion from

a. There was high probability that it was the church that distort the history up to 400 years before known history.

b. In recent chapter we know that some ancient people use magic stone. Thus there high probability that they have great achievement in understanding witch power and how to utilize it. remember Tilly and church has employing witch far before Roland and his technological marvel. It was said that ancient building has many trace of high magical utilization. kinda like early industrial revolution, magic version.

c. current era witch doesn't get the power upgraded not because they don't have roland knowlegde. they stuck because they don't experiment with their power. because persecution etc they forced to hide their power. Same situation doesn't apply to witch in past. With more freedom and lot of supporter they are free to excercise their power. Remember some witch is smarter like Anna. And Nightingale even has her power upgraded even before she meet Roland.

d. the ancient scripture kinda jumbled for me because I wasn't clear who wrote that. I doubt it was church side, because if it's true then church doesn't need to hide it. It clears that the one who wrote it is in the losing side and they prepared to deploy their ultimate weapon. god punishment army. I suspect current GPA was stolen technology by church. Thus it's important for church to hide the evident that church plagiarism the concept of GPA. It was said that experiment was success but it was too dangerous thus it must be stop. something on holy mountain has something to do with GPA.

e. Current chap has describe that church is bunch of lunatics if not power hungry that join under the banner of church. Their motives to spread their teaching is too suspicious they evrn wreck two kingdom and has war with another kingdom.

I didn't say witches can't upgrade their power without the help of MC knowledge, what I meant is that with what the MC is teaching them they are upgrading their power at an accelerated and noticeable rate. Nightingale didn't upgrade her power, I think you are confusing the time of her awakening when she got the power to become invisible and bypass stuff with the power upgrade that a witch can accomplish by understanding more about the world and it's laws. We know that the witches under the 5th Princess are constantly using their power because it is mentioned that they already know the effect of pain lessening and the Princess is still surprised when she hears that witches can evolve their power, hence my assumption that with the MC knowledge witches get a qualitative and fast leap but on their own at most they have a incremental and slow process of evolving their power.

Yep, we don't know who wrote those ancient books but when I mentioned the unknown foe humanity fought in the old age I meant, and they most likely are, the human like creature that the witches encountered in the wild when they searched for the holy mountain, the creatures that can use magic like ability themselves.

Well I don't argue neither for or against the church being a bunch of lunatics. I just approve of the way the author portraits the church as a jumble of people with different mindsets and intentions. There are some people in the church that only see witches as evil and that's the only reason they are killing/persecuting them while there are others that know more and are selling this idea to the masses and the lower echelons of the church with other types of intents.

Wimbeldon 3? You mean the former king? I am pretty sure that he didn't figure out their true intention when he was kidnapped and replaced because he says so himself that he was loyal to them and he was kidnapped when he came at the church for a important ceremony (I don't recall exactly how it's named, the blessing or something). That is when they made the switch and they made it because of the desire to create strife and pin the children of the king one against each other and while they are fighting they will offer help to the population that will be impoverished and suffering from the war and thus creating more believers when they give them salvation. And after they have most of the masses loyalty they will strike the finishing blow to the weakened throne winner. The former king intended to give the throne to his first son and didn't desire strife between them.

O they did, they did a lot of it until they found the most suitable age and power to extract the best quality blood from in order for the blood infusion to have the highest success rate that it can have.

They say that they torture and killed a lot of witches just for that reason. Not torture in the way of punishment but torture the way a "scientist" will torture his lab rats with experiments in order to get results, not that this would make it more "humane".

The one that bestowed goddesses upon the earth and endowed them with the most fearsome weapons of man's creation.

At least half of the population of the world will revere him for generation to come and write tells and sing songs of his accomplishment.

Legends will be born and he will be their progenitor, sawing the seed and the desire to seek and find true innovation for their own happiness in husbands, fathers, brothers all over the world.


All jokes aside though, he is one of those rare chinese novel protagonists that actually cares about his love interests and takes the time to know them and doesn't force himself on them because of some random bullshit like "he is a genius, the strongest under the heavens" (and then proceeds to rape and kill everyone that even breaths in his direction because he is a genius but has a dick for a brain; how the hell people can even claim those types of creatures are intelligent and cunning is beyond me).

It's not even been more then a year since the start of the story so there are no big physical changes to her body from the way she was described the first time.

The MC already has "printed out" books so even if there is no telepath eventually he will make a book for everything that he knows. Actually this was one of his priorities when he found out about the two witches, he wanted to get out as much as possible before he starts to forget.

After the Demon Month, it was mostly social/technological/magical development on his side. Major events are further development of his territory, the mass production of guns and cannons, receiving the 9 new witches from the wilds, etc...

Then the civil war started, with the first prince getting offed, the second prince declaring himself the new king, the 3rd princess having none of that, etc... At that point, the Duke of Longsong was aligned towards the 2nd prince, and the MC was very deliberately avoiding the summons from said prince for him to return to the capital and swear allegiance. Plus the Duke wasn't too happy with the MC either, so he ended up leading an army to capture the MC (and probably teach those uppity peasants in the border town a lesson at the same time). The Longsong cavalry then proceeded to run straight into a prepped killing field that MC prepared with Leaf's magic and Lightning's scouting:
- Single corridor with heavy foliage (impassable for cavalry) on the sides
- Corridor with short grass concealing heavy vines on the ground

Against guns and cannons, the Longsong army got pretty much annihilated with the Duke dead and everyone left alive being taken prisoner. With the Longsong army destroyed, the lord dead, and a great number of hostages, the MC negotiated Longsong's surrender and ransomed the nobles back for people and materials (he kept all the knghts though, so Longsong wouldn't be able to muster up a new army to act against him anytime soon).

On the actual civil war, the MC is mostly staying out of it, or at least as much as possible (much like his little sister the 5th princess). So far neither the 2nd prince nor the 3rd princess have paid much attention to him, due to him keeping a mostly low profile, and have kept the bulk of their forces for other things. Only exception is a small expedition sent by the 2nd prince , and they got easily wiped out too.

That said, the MC is taking advantage of the civil war in more subtle ways: One major plot was to take advantage of the refugee problems that tend to arise in wars, and he ended up taking a huge number of the refugees to his own territory with the help of a friendly merchant group.
