What's your reason for not disliking it? I don't really mind it but I'm rather indifferent to it regardless.

I never liked any anime series that dealt too much on their own country's greatness in a serious manner. Muv-luv, Mahouka and Terraformars all had this condition, and it's totally unneeded in my opinion. The only ideas of YAMATO DAMASHII I liked is when Domon Kasshu shoves his Shining Finger onto his opponents in Gundam G (badassery) or when Toori Aoi goes to war with the rest of the "world" for the sake of Horizon in Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon.

Both the manga and the light novel rewrites (which cut up each novel into two light novels for easier reading) downplay it, though it doesn't go away entirely. Drop by the manga thread for details.

This is exactly why I want to find examples to see myself, rather than broad strokes simply mentioned by a second reader.

I've only been able to follow the manga and catch a few posts in the manga thread. So far nothing strikes me as super right wing. (Maybe the US/Russia/China attempt to reach the Special Area guests or the condemnation of Japan from everyone. But I can see the condemnation happening for real, but that's standard world politics to condemn everything for brownie points at home.)

Being a college student (at midterm season) doesn't really let me do much in depth research unfortunately, let alone comb the manga thread. Can you direct link me?

Per the manga, the examples of right-wing behavior is limited primarily to:

When they return through the Gate with some of the women from beyond - Chapter 22. Politicians attempting to railroad the military - the military did absolutely no wrong - the US using political leverage on corrupt Japanese cabinet members to extradite the women. That is the part which really stands out to me at least. I also cannot imagine a more laughable portrayal of the US Special Forces in comparison to JSDF.

They could gloss over almost this entire part in the anime frankly and it wouldn't affect the story in the slightest. I have a feeling it'd get cut, except that it plays host to a standard bath sequence that the ecchi fans crave. So I'm uncertain. I don't know what else would be in the novel.

Yeah, those are mild examples since the manga is apparently a little filtered. Those don't bother me too much. I'm looking for examples in the original web novel or light novel. I'm sure something juicy is there since the people who've seen those are quite consistent about it and no one else has said otherwise. It's probably better for everybody to see examples of the right-wing stuff now so they can adjust for viewing the work later.

Um, the cited examples aren't Right (or Left) Wing, just exploitation of power (which is endemic throughout all types of governments).

I am painting a very broad swath here, just looking for examples in the manga that could be interpreted in such a way. So I'm not necessarily married to it or carrying some banner that the series is by any means bad (I love it). However, every foreign government has thus far been portrayed as a hostile aggressor. That is usually the tone associated to nationalistic or right-wing groups.

I doubt the gate site is for this as an anime. Nothing has been said anywhere at the publisher's site or any of the key fan sites.

As to the right wing politics. There isn't anything to what's in the manga or from what I've learned of the novels that is any worse than reading something written in most US military/political fiction. The only difference is you have Japan as the heroes vs US or whatever other nationality is being hosted. I really wish people would get over this. It's fiction. Made up. Departed from reality by a long long ways. Why give a flying fart in the wind as long as you can enjoy it in the context of the story. Anything that is too probable to offend folks will probably not be shown, merely alluded to or simply skipped. Though if they cut Rory's screen time...people would have to suffer heinously.

Why would I enjoy a certain group of people stomping on enemies that use medieval-level technology with tanks and guns?

The only difference is you have Japan as the heroes vs US or whatever other nationality is being hosted.

America has been depicted as what they were in fiction so much that it's no longer a surprise to see them in such a role. No need for Japan to try and become America outside of American soil.

I don't know if you quite realize just how much sophistry this statement is or how close it comes to out and out bigotry. So no other country's authors have a right to portray their homeland in a heroic or 'white hat' light simply because they aren't America. That's what it sounds like is being said. To put it in perspective, Log Horizon after the anime boost sold about equal copies as Gate, which has had no anime adaptation.

True. But as I said. There is no mention of an anime for it being approved by either the book publisher, author, or main fan sites. So unless information pops up on their sites I'm not gonna hold my breathe.

Don't forget the Other World has functional Magic, and eventually they will figure out effective uses for it against modern technology, and it doesn't have to be big and flashy, either. Just keep it simple: a small flame in an ammunition bin, chemically alter diesel fuel to become water, harden hydraulic fluid (really bad for jets!), teleport bolts out of an engine mount, teleport mud into cannon barrels, sever coolant lines, etc etc.
