Last chance, and I'll give you a hint: it's the same reason why Ayu does not have a phone number, does not know what the heck a cellphone is, has some stores really mixed up even though she's supposed to be a native, and is confused by big words

It's been a while since I saw Kanon 2k2, but IIRC, the real Ayu is lying in a coma for the past 7 years bedridden in the hospital shown in the first episode, and the Ayu we're seeing is her dream self manifested in reality. Thus since the Ayu that's shown right now is all but an apparition, hygiene doesn't really apply to her. And since she hasn't been awake for 7 years, much less been school in that period, she's a bit errr... unwise in the ways of the world.

Here's the fake real answer: It's from a game. How often do game characters change clothes? Especially games from 1999?

Stuff I noticed:
Why is Makoto afraid of Ayu?
Why does Akiko remember Ayu when no one else can even remember their own personal details?
Where the heck does Ayu live?
Why does Kaori's house suck?
Why is Shiori stalking Yuuichi?
Does Nayuki push herself because she wants to be able to run like Ayu?

This show is getting awesome. I can feel it. It better not let me down.

telling you, what I said before applies. I know exactly why she
looks the way she looks and dresses the way she dresses. I'm not
saying any more, I don't want to be accused of ruining what I find
is a touching story.

I mean, this would be like telling someone the whole Higurashi
plot without letting them watch it.

The answer to most of this is some pretty deep spoilers, but I don't think Makoto is actually scared of Ayu, but more is just shy.

Ultimately, Makoto's true nature is to be wary.

Indeed, Akiko could answer that question better than any character in the show.
Perhaps you might examine her reasons for witholding such knowledge.

Have you ever opted to stay away from your home due to situations at your home?

Why is Shiori stalking Yuuichi?

A better question is "Why does Yuuichi have a small harem of women
at his beck and call?"

Think again about Shiori's situation and why sometimes it's easier to
talk to strangers about details of your life you might not choose
to share with a friend.

Does Nayuki push herself because she wants to be able to run like Ayu?

No, but I must admit I am very impressed with Ayu's running.

A better question is: who is Nayuki trying her best for?

This show is getting awesome. I can feel it. It better not let me down.

So far it's looking quite good. I've watched the Toei version and liked it,
this seems like there's more time for development so it should do fine.

Neway I was listening to this track "Trace Of Dream". It is from the first scene of first episode of the series when Yuichi is waiting. What can I say? It is simply beautiful. listening for 3 hrs straight and its a 2:38 song so do the math.

In the old series Makoto never met Mai right. Is there goin to be a major plot shift. Because i dont recall Makoto meeting Ayu either or is it that i m suffering from amnesia.

But i yet feel the ending will be same cause Ayu is still at the hospital. After all, those opening dialogues are hers right. I just hope they dont make Ayu die in the last episode or somethin right after seeing Yuichi or something...If that happens, i ll die of a depression i think

In the game there's no voice and you constantly get someone saying all this junk about dreams every night when you go to bed. It works out better in the game since you don't know who's talking. The anime can't really get away with it so you get Ayu's voiceover, appropriate but somewhat disappointing.

She has more than 1 shirt, shorts and socks of the same color. How many anime do you really see the characters change clothes in?

I thought that Mai did see Makoto in the old version when Yuichi went into the school at night.

Maybe the voiceover cuts down on the scenes needed to explain Ayu's situation fully.

hehe... but come on, isn't her little coat adorable? sadly I can't say any more than that.

but also, most of the other charectors are always wearing the same clothes (although true most of them are seifuku) ... which was a technique that used to be used to help aid in telling what charector it was... not as much of an issue these days. but still... Shiroi's shawl (sp?), the various ribbons, and Ayu's coat are just part of the Kanon that I love.

the sad thing is, even though it was in Toei's version too... I never even noticed the coat's shadow until KyoAni's version..... stupid foreshadowing that is in plain sight

Oh, that shadow...I didn't notice it in this version yet.

Toei's version had Ayu's shadow mimicking the lost good luck charm which looks like an angel. It was in that episode where she met Akiko for the first time while Akiko and Yuichi were shopping. She was upset and confused and her shadow was mimicking the lost item. It was in Toei version ep. 3 and the wings were moving in the shadow. (Pretty cruel considering the outcome of the first series imo.) That scene corresponds to our ep. 4 scene.

At least KyoAni is being considerate and is spreading out Ayu's tragic childhood with Yuichi. Of course, that means a better setup for the viewers' descent into depression imo.

Was that shadow a Toei only event too?

Yeah, it's a BIG spoiler. A major series spoiler. But if you put together all the character interactions, prologues, flashbacks and monologues so far, you can come to a similar conclusion by ep. 4 imo. However, the explanation is more detailed than what you should arrive at by the above methods imo and would definitely not be something to see if you haven't figured it out already imo.

In fact, for some reason that character is getting her past explained out earlier imo. That part totally perplexes me. Maybe, to cushion the descent when it happens?
