If you want something old and new at the same time that is high quality, look for Space Battleship Yamato 2199. There are only 10 episodes out so far, with another 4 due out on Blu-Ray in two months. But I've heard it called the best remake (possibly) ever made.

As an example, the trailer for Chapter 4 (due in theaters next month).

Honestly, this serves him right.
I refuse to take a person who asks "What happened to all the high-quality anime?" seriously. It's like he's mocking those series that do not fall under his "high-quality" category.
