So, the first Eva 5 don't exist anymore and also, the Moon Eva is the six.
I'm very excited to see the Eva from the moon in action. It makes everything completely different. If he was in the original series, they would never loses the longinus lance. Perhaps he's a flying one... |

But that also kinda conflicts with my wishes to see some of the other characters. Kaworu for one is a character who's supposed to get more screentime in Rebuild due to how little he did in the original series despite being such an important character. And then there's the fact that they need to properly introduce Asuka and Kaji in 2.0 as well. Really hope they can do it all without really shafting anybody. >_> |

Well there's always that too. Japan actually finally letting go of Evangelion is indeed rather unlikely to happen.
True that. Just hope they choose which ones to skip wisely, because the battles against some of them contain good moments for certain characters. |

If memory serves me well, before it got famous, Eva was a money burner. Hence, the whole issue about the last 2 episodes of the main series, and the movies. In this aspect, it's like the original Mobile Suit Gundam, which wasn't an instant hit either.

Evan didn't have rumors of corrupt business-men and Evangelion being a planned failure for tax-loop money (being arrested for actual tax evasion didn't help disprove this)
Eva was a money burner also in that it's a pretty explicit show for something that replaces the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles timeslot. This was like replacing Power Rangers for Black Lagoon at the time. Although Eva was popular enough to warrant a completed movie ending, while Gundam needed 3 compilation movies before it got up and running. |

I do admit Gainax has a far easier Merch path. Sunrise has to design a new Gundam, put it on TV for 50 episodes, and sell model kits of different grades, de-assemble them, and put instructions.
Gainax puts a Rei Ayanami figure and that pays this month's electric bills. |

Essentially, from guessing, it's made for all-terrain and has speed advantage compared to the other EVA's. It has default equipment of a lance (And if it's a mass-produced Lance of Longius, that's all it needs) and is built for jousting.
It does sacrifice advantages a humanoid EVA would have (certainly not catching a bomb Angel with that), but otherwise superior in combat. |

Mari plus Maaya's voice is win... i think that it will be a damn war between fanboys (Asuka's, Mari's, Rei's, etc)
And... Being Maaya in the cast, i think that she will be singing some song... which is double win.

That's an interesting point. I've seen discussions over the years about how Evas couldn't be equipped with wings because the pilot would have to be able to comprehend how to move a body that flies. The same could be said of the new model... Unless there's some convenient explanation like "it interprets her mental commands to walk into a speed and direction to roll."
