Ren and Miu go back to the spaceship which was fixed when IO became a Gatekeeper.
Takeya goes along. He finds himself on a ship FULL of girls who all love him and it turns out that Ren is a Gate, aka a Baby Factory.......

Well that's the whole point of 8.

Ren is going to leave with IO and Finally Takeya declares that he loves her. Miu finds out the 'Gift' that she and Takeya share is not the GIFT, it's love.

Finally IO comes out of her cocoon and because Fiona wakes up IO has to leave (The ultimate purpose of the DearS is to spread to other planets). IO becoming IO the Gatekeeper wakes up the Ship which had a spare engine that only she could power. IO leaves and Fiona stays on earth and all the DearS are given a choice, leave or Stay. Miu, China, IO, and Ren leaves, and Takeya realizes that he can't live without Ren. But he doesn't count on the fact that all the people who are leaving are in love with Him and he can't stand space travel. Also the fact that Ren is in charge with repopulating the whole DearS race might be an issue....

Actually, Peach-Pit said they were planning a morbid ending but they got too attached to their characters and wanted to make them happy. So they re-wrote the entire last story! xD

See, DearS is among my most favorite anime. Not the best, but among my most favorite. I've watched it three times already and it still doesn't bore me at all. I DO WISH TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS BEYOND THE ANIME ... WE CAN HAVE SEASON 2! WOOT! AND THE TRUE ENDING! ZMOG! YAY! /fanboy

Dont mean to bring the thread back to life or anything, but I just got into the DearS manga not too long ago. I wasn't into manga but, I found out that I read through manga faster than I do the anime. I don't have to wait to see whats going on. I really like that, I just have to remember that it's based in junior high and that Takeya just doesn't get whats really going on. I just got finished reading Vol 4 and will continue to do so.

It's not based in junior-high... Takeya's a senior in high school, right? If you think that Takeya doesn't fall head over heels for Ren or Miu for an age reason, you're mistaken.

I'm glad that the final volume was finally released by Tokyopop. The manga had its high and low points, and the ending was pretty cliche, but I enjoyed it.

I still don't understand why Takeya goes on the ship. He's been resistent to aliens all this time and NOW, just when everbody else is leaving (well, Ren wasn't, initially, until Takeya decided to come on board)...I cannot understand the psychology there. Too much a 180 for me.

Forbin/Merines.......I only said junior high because thats how I see that he is acting. I never said that I won't fall for either of the DearS, it's just that it's so obvious whats going on and he clearly doesn't see it. He's had at least 3 people to explain whats Ren is and yet he's still, "I don't get what you mean, "Master/Slave"....whats that all about?" I mean come on, don't tell me that anyone hasn't thought the same. If not, then thats just the way I preceived it.

dprycaik.....after reading the 4th vol, I believe that he goes on the ship to get Ren. She was taken after she tried to seduce Takeya by having him touch her breast. He got mad and left. When Ren heard a knock at the door, she thought it was him, but it was Ruvi. She took Ren.

Takeya completely understands the perverted aspect of the master/slave thing. Just because he is in total denial about it for most of the series because he doesn't trust aliens (and is afraid of falling in love again since his previous love ended up marrying his dad), doesn't mean he's a moron.

His turnaround in accepting DearS is very sudden (blame Peach-Pit!) and likely may have stayed with him in the original ending. I think he went on the spaceship so he could do something extraordinary. He's nearing the end of his school time and has no idea what he wants to do with his life. So rather than stay on Earth and worry about the same thing, he chooses to go into space with the DearS and pave his own path.

See, that is more understandable...he wanted to do something with his life in the end (I was talking book 8, not book 4, my other friend). I can see him being lost and wanting to do something different...and maybe he felt sympathy for Ren, who needed to go where she could belong and not be uncomfortable. A way to protect her????

I was still sad that there was no kiss. Pout.
