^Me too. That and Cowboy Bebop the movie. They're both visually amazing and the animation is just wow. Love Cowboy Bebop the movie more though, since the story (but they had something to work from) and characters are better.
So still no scans yet? |

For me, Bones make a very good job in Soul Eater. Funny and great action sequences. In The Alternative End it was creative and have good moments, like Death City walking and Fighting.
Go go Bones.

Loving those designs. Especially the blonde hair girl who looks to be the main heroine of the show. Our main character looks pretty typical, though with awesome hair like that i'll let it slide.

Additional staff listed for Star Driver:
Cybuddy Design: Shigeto Koyama Concept Design: Shinji Aramaki Art Design: Kazuo Nagai Underground World Design: Tomoaki Okada Industrial Design: Takayuki Yanase VFX Director: Yasushi Muraki Art Director: Takeshi Waki Color Setting: Shihoko Nakayama Director of Photography: Tsuyoshi Kanbayashi Editng: Shigeru Nishiyama Sound Director: Kazuhiro Wakabayashi The story and worldview concepts sound a lot like Fafner. It's about students in a school on an island in the southern sea of Japan, set in the far future, robots, time of change for mankind, blahblah. Hope it doesn't suck. The mechs are called Cybuddies btw. At least, that's the closest logical English translation from the katakana... |

Original character design artists, Misa Mizuya and Hiroka Mizuya... why the fuck is their art so similar to Takeshi Obata's?! It's no wonder the designs for the show look so Bakuman-ish, if someone told me their stuff was drawn by Obata, I would believe them without second thoughts:

The characters looking similar to Obata designs is not surprising. Misa Mizuya and Hiroka Mizuya are supposed to be twin sisters who do cover illustrations for the magazine Kikan S. The thing is though, all their artwork looks suspiciously similar to Obata artwork. They're either zero talent illustrators who just like ripping Obata off, or they're just a pen name Obata is using for whatever reason. I found all this out while researching them when Star Driver was first announced.

I'm not really surprised by the chara design either, since I was warned Misa and Hiroka Mizuya's art look insanely similar to Obata's. I wonder if it's one of his pen name, or if those twins are somehow related to him (former assistants, family or whatever). If they were just plain old copycats, there would probably be problems. Then again, maybe not, I have no idea how those things work, Obata's art has been ripped off so many times in so many mangas already.
