One thing I didn't understand in the manga and still don't get is Zeref in this episode. Back in Tenrou he seemed all sad and crying and wanting to die and now he seems back to being all evil and wanting to kill everyone.

It was a "new era". He said he'd stay out of action for as long as the "old era" lasted. That ended when Hades disgusted him with the atrocities he committed for the sake of "awakening" him, which made him "forget" how to cherish life. Now he's spent the past seven years wondering what to do about it. He still wants to die, but now he's in the mood to kill everyone everwhere while he's at it.

Well, look what I found: info on the upcoming filler arc on the official website!

Spoiler:

It will be called the "Eclipse Celestial Spirit Arc", and will begin on October 18. According to what has been translated, the celestial spirits become corrupted by Eclipse's magic and go rogue, turning against their masters to gain "complete freedom". It's up to Natsu and Lucy to return them to normal.

And here are some images with images of Leo, Virgo, and Aquarius, and silhouettes of all the others:

Excluding the ones we know, it looks like Gemini, Cancer, Pisces?, and Sagitarious is obvious. Really can't tell the others.

Looking at the image file names, the pictures are named in the order of the Zodiac symbols. Thus, I can confirm the spirits' silhouettes without a doubt:

I can feel Ophiuchus' rage on not being included in the filler, going something like: GODDAMMIT I'M GOOD ENOUGH TO MAKE A BLONDE DRILL HAIRED CLASS PREZ BECOME JAIL BAIT (Star Force reference) BUT I'M NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR A FT FILLER!?, in before he becomes the key, no pun intended, to solving this crisis.

This arc certainly doesn't seem as mysterious as the last. Hope the fights are good though, that was the biggest weakness with the last one.

Well, you can see the scorpion tail-shaped ponytail, so...

Also, I'm guessing it's only the Zodiac spirits since they were the ones who came directly into contact with the gate. And since it was made using Zeref's black magic, having such a bad side-effect only seems natural.

Scorpio kind of looks like that girl from Mermaid heel in the overalls. Well the hair anyway.

Wonder how long the arc will be. I remember thinking the last arc would end with Dan and Coco and them all and it was only the halfway point.

really interesting that news, i'm looking for it see all the spirits with a different look and more role.

the last episode was really fun and based on the preview of the next looks like we gonna get something like:
2 omakes being adapted and the filler arc my prediction about how the things will be:

10/03 - frosh
10/10 - ? (another omake)
10/17 - Eclipse Celestial Spirit Arc

then if this arc is a 12 to 13 then we get in the next year

2015/01/?? - another omake
2015/01/?? - another omake
2015/01/?? - sun village arc
2015/01/?? - novel arc(mashima also told about the new novel being animated)
2015/??/?? - tartarus arc

with this i predict the gap between anime and manga goes again back to 100+ and mashima having plent of time to work on manga without fear of anime catch the manga before the manga end.

This last episode was laugh out loud fun. Haven't had as much fun with FT in a while. I missed this, the show works better when it's doing comedy

I think 20 episodes starting next week is a good pace for me. Thus, maybe 18 episodes total for the arc, maybe 17.

I believe it was confirmed that omake after Frosch would be the chapter about Erza. Also, refresh my memory, the new novel is about members of the guild working with other guilds to strengthen inter-guild bonds?

Tell that to reviewers like D4 and Forneverworld they hate when fairytail does cmedy they seem like they want dark plot and fights.

well for what mashima already told i can see ft not ending before 2016, he already told who his plans is to at last one more minor arc and one or 2 more big arcs before the manga end(he told a long time ago(in the beginner of this year or near the end of last year who he have plans for 3 big arcs(after gmg) and 2 minor arcs at last before end then after gmg we must have at last if it not axxed or mashima get tired we have 1 more minor and 1 or 2 more big arcs)).

and also we have the fairy tail 0 and the others spin offs then this means who is too early to say who the manga is ending.

i can easy see this ending between 2016 and 2017.

yeah the novel is about the mix between guilds.
