Seems interesting enough, like a modified Devil Survivor with better production values. Naturally the beginning is confusing because they jumped into the action and conflict right away, but fortunately the flashback one week before happened.
Also: Asuka, Azumi, Ayase, Aina, probably intentional but still a neat detail. I was looking forward to the OP video so much but got sacrificed for the sake of exposition like it happens frequently, can't be helped. At least episode 2 will have that plus the proper ED. |

There are 6 BD/DVD volumes listed on retail sites so I guess this series will be 12 episodes.
I wonder if they're going to skip the background story on the anime since people can just read them on the official site. Same director as The Severing Crime Edge, I guess that's why MisaoFan think that this series is similar to it. He also directed Touka Gettan, I guess that explains why the story suddenly goes into earlier part at the end of this episode, at least it seems this series doesn't seems to be aired in the same way like it. The intro was interesting.
Practically all girl characters... kinda disappointing. I would usual go for this sci-fi/adventure thing. Feels like something is missing though.. Can't really put my finger on it. Maybe it's just not serious enough for me. Getting the younger viewers vibe from this one. Skipping it.

I thought the premise was interesting in the sense that in most SF when Earth is invaded, humanity bands together to fight the common enemy. But here, humanity split and allied with different factions of invaders. At least that's how it appeared to me. I'd like to know more about why the humans were fighting each other.
Another change to the standard was the MC. It's very common for the action shounen lead to fight because he has something he wants to protect. Occasionally he has someone he wants to protect. But how often do you hear the lead to say "See that hospital over there? My mother's there and I want to protect her"? That's unusually specific for these types of shows.

Spoiler for Speculation:
Though this is just my speculation since I never played the card game myself, I only saw the card illustration. |

It's generic, there's not a single character that interests me, and to top it off it's even based on a card game, huh. Actually all along I had the feeling of "this is based on a game, right?". A bit sad that it was true There are some good game adaptations but this isn't one of those. Not to mention, the main character is the annoying type that likes to shout random bullshit.

I think I liked the second episode more than the first, probably because it made more sense. With the first episode, we we're practically in the middle of everything, all the characters were there and some trouble was going down, and I really hate it when they do that. Episode 2 is what episode 1 should have been. Who's our main character, what does he do, how did he get his familiar, how did he meet certain people etc etc.
Saying that, episode 2 had me way more interested and focused.
