Tactical/Strategy Games

Hi!~

Anybody want to suggest any recent games (within the last 1-2 years) to me as the title suggests? I've played FF Tactics, Ogre Tactics, Vandel Hearts, Fire Emblem: RD and Disgaea, however didn't like Disgaea much. Any console is fine. Thanks!

You might like the PC version of Dragon Age (played on hard difficulty). It's a pause-based semi-tactical RPG (basically, you have to micromanage). Plus, it has a great story.

You can try Tactics Advance and Advance 2, but the quality compared to the original will probably make you toss them.

Empire Deluxe has poor graphics but a decent tactical/strategy elements.

UMI (Universal Military I-something) was very ambitious, best strategy game in terms of complexity and realism, (it had weather, supply routes, morale, unit types- and all of it adjustable at the scenario levels- came preloaded with the Napoleon Wars as a preloaded scenario two), but so buggy. I could never get my copy to operate for more than 30 turns.

....I'm probably coming across as really old right about now.

In my twenties I subscribed to Strategy & Tactics, a magazine by former Avalon Hill staffers who left to form their own company, Simulations Publications, Inc. SPI published board games using maps overlaid with hexes and cardboard counters to represent units. SPI's developers were very committed to historical accuracy and produced some excellent, but rather complex games. A few of them can still be purchased from Decision Games, and some of them are available for online play as well.

I'll also suggest the Age of Empires series for Windows PCs.

If you like the Age of Empires type you might want to try Rise of Nations. It's a lot more complex than Age of Empires and focuses not just on destroying your enemies but managing you empire as well as dealing with stuff like attrition (which I hated!).
~it's a few years old (I could be wrong, I don't know when the last expansion, if there was one, came out)

Star Craft 2 is coming out eventually, you could always wait on that... although it might not be playable if you don't have a solid gaming PC.
