Ah so that's what happened in the past regarding Ito, damn I feel bad for her...when she was bullied.
This week's episode gave me some slight Steins;Gate vibes because of the time travel and cell phone stuff. I like their plan though despite not going well against the "Turtle Guy". D:

Considering it's Uchikoshi, chances are Yuta probably got the power to get his body back later, and just went back in time.
Meika is probably fully aware of who Kenji is, but the future Yuta asked her to keep it a secret to prevent the current ghost Yuta from finding out. |

I really want to like this series more than I do, because I love parts of it - the character designs, the sense of humor (rapidly disappearing, sadly). But I think it's a perfect example of why what makes a VN great is not what makes an anime great.
A VN can (though I would argue the best ones don't) get by without a protagonist that matters. The routes can carry the story, because each one gets a full treatment. In an anime like Punchline, the routes are truncated. They aren't enough to carry the series to real traction alone - they need a protagonist who's engaging and has a dynamic story of his own. Yuuta is engaging, but not remotely dynamic - it's obvious that the story considers his story irrelevant. They may shoehorn some stuff in now, but for me it's really too late - the show is half over. The best VN-to-anime hybrids - stuff like S;G and R:N - have really distinctive main characters who're on a personal journey that matters in its own terms. And that makes all the difference in the world.

Ok, Yuuta goes into flashback mode with Pine, Chiyoko, and Guriko. So he must be one of them? Obviously not Guriko since that's Mikatan, so it's one of the other two. Thing is, white haired guy in the first episode sees Mikatan's G and that's when he hesitated, but that makes Yuuta really a girl?
Counterpoint though, in the first episode, we see Yuuta get saved by a presumably young Chiyoko and Guriko. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Pine shares the same VA as Yuuta, and so far the only person in the show who can go super saiyan apart from Yuuta is Pine. Still puts the fate of Chiyoko up in the air, or maybe she's dead already? Hmm....

As for story, there is nothing i can say until next ep.
btw I suspect(hope) that the game is possibly an action game but not a typical ADV. Pine's seiyuu is Yui Shouji and Yuuta's seiyuu is Marina Inoue, as you know. |

Now that's interesting. Usually they voice girl characters the same whether they're the younger or older versions (of course there's exceptions like Haganai), but male characters are usually girl VA when they're young and guy VA when they're old. If Yuuta is indeed Pine, then it's probably the first time I've heard of a male character that's voice by a girl VA when young, and then another girl VA when older.
But I guess just like Haganai, I guess they didn't want it to be figured it out THAT easily.

I... really like this anime lol
Firstmost I love Noitamina's art direction and production quality so it's really pleasant to watch just for that. Secondly yes, the story is messy, especially the first 2-3 episodes where it's not still clear what the anime is trying to tell and yeah I was about to drop this series after both 1st and 2nd eps, but for some reason I kept watching and now I got to love the humor of the story (and the characters as well) and I find myself really enjoying the anime and the thought of dropping this got completely out of my mind. I dont know how much it will change after ep 6, but even if nothing changed I think I would still enjoy the anime bc of its silliness and randomness like I did until now. I understand this kind of stories are far from being everyone's cup of tea, but I personally enjoy it a lot! |
