I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss

Light novel series I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss is getting an anime adaptation.

Plot Summary

Quote:
Due to the shock of having my engagement broken, I was able to recover the memories of my previous life. This is the world of the otome game of my previous life, is not it? If so, then as the villainess I’ll get caught up in the battle between the heroine and the demon king and die…… please tell me this is a joke! If this is so, then I’ll avoid that death flag by conquering The Last Boss (Demon King)!

This is the story where the villainess gives the heroine, her former fiance, and childhood friend their just deserts, starts her own enterprise, increases subordinate (manservant) count, and gets loved by the Demon King.

I wasn't sure what to expect but episode 1 was fairly promising. Here's to more villainess adaptations.

It almost doesn't sound like him but Tomokazu Sugita is credited as Almond as well. Threw me almost as much as Aoi Yuki playing Lucy in Edgerunners.

This is one of the few series I'm really looking forward to for fall, though I was hoping for other villainess series to be adapted first. Still this should be a pretty fun ride and a complete story, more or less.

I quite like this so far. It doesn't have the over the top comedy of Bakarina and a bit more drama overall.

Bakarina does have something over this though. Bakarina establishes that the villain is indeed the villain and thus in the original story deserved her dastardly fate.

Spoiler:

It makes you question whether you really would have rooted for the protagonists in this game. Is that the vibe given off by the Light Novel original?

Nearly every villainess or josei reincarnation story is like that though. The person the lead reincarnates/transmigrates into is always misunderstood or driven to rash actions in their emotional grief and turmoil. The situations are immediately reversed because they have some foresight in where their reactions will lead them (invariably death).

Bakarina is an exception, but ultimately no longer the best of the genre because it methodically deflates its own tension in exchange for harem comedy.

What sets this one apart for me even in the first episode (not a LN or manga reader) is that the villainess is actually still quite haughty in her demeanor. The majority of villainess stories reverse themselves by having the lead become either super-kind or super-brilliant. Aileen is still largely arrogant, dismissive, domineering, and not-particularly cautious about what she's doing in her survival scheme.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised that Aileen still felt like or identified as herself even when she got her past life memories back...you could take out the whole Otome game background and the plot would probably still work .

Assuming the anime is 1-cour, I wonder how much content the anime could cover.

One thing I recall of the novel was that each volume was like its own self-contained adventure storyline. The manga adaptation only covered Vol 1 as a promo for the novels, and I recall the manga artist expressing her disappointment her contract was only for that 1 volume as she was a fan of the subsequent adventures later on.

I doubt it'll get animated but there's a Hamefura AU manga where Bakarina doesn't regain her past life memories until she's like 15 and already in school bullying Maria and such, its kind of interesting.

Anyway not every heroine is like Maria either, in other villainess series they can be haraguro and sometimes they're reincarnated as well. Sometimes the male lead is part of the villainess' harem and other times they're at odds with the villainess. The broken engagement scene tends to be a staple in villainess series though.

I will say the first few minutes of this show really endeared me to this girl. There's just something really respectable about her dealing with the public humiliation of having her engagement destroyed like she did. Even with her overall past life memories coming to her she still honestly felt the hit of that situation and had to work to keep her head held high.

Definitely makes me want to see her manage to get through all this. Plus she does do some crazy and hilarious stuff. So the entertainment value is solid here.

Honestly Aileen is pretty awesome and frankly so is the Demon Lord. She's definitely a bit odd and extreme, but she feels really human. The weight of situations and hurtful accusations do land for her. And the Demon Lord is just a good guy that's clearly had his own difficult time. In that sense they definitely are suited for each other. Honestly I feel bad for the Lilia girl since she seems pretty nice. The Prince is definitely a piece of work. Definitely no need to take things as far as he has been.

Credit both to the Demon Lord for gauging Aileen well enough to ask why she's out to marry him and also her for just throwing that craziness all out there. I feel like she could have spun this in a way that didn't sound crazy. But hey, props to her for going for it .

I wasn't very enthused about another otome villainess show, but it was pretty good. I like that she's courting the dark side rather than trying to revamp her image with the "good" guys.

It'd be funny if in the end rather than just avoiding her death, she makes it such that demon ikemen still turns into a dragon, but she's now the dragonrider and together they take over the world lol

Prince Cedric is a dick! I mean, he's already done so much to hurt Aileen's reputation, but stealing her business and leaving her employees jobless? What a tool! Did Aileen give him co-ownership because she was planning to marry him in the first place? Whatever the case, he goes on about Aileen scheming something when he's the one conspiring to ruin her! Claude, your brother is the worst .

Well, it's good to know that even if noble society has turned its back on her and her father will throw her out if she doesn't make up the money she lost, Aileen still has loyal friends and allies in the human world. Like the reporter Jasper (Hiroki Yasumoto), or her former employees! They're already conspiring to murder Prince Cedric for her! I think we've even got Yuma Uchida as Isaac .

The Demon Lords' castle could definitely use refurbishing and a woman's touch...but while Claude is fine with letting Aileen have her way, he wants her to be more sweet and emotional when she asks for anything else. He wants to see his lady express herself more and more .

Aileen now has animal sidekicks that can come out through her shadow! Ribbon playing with her hair was adorable. Although now other demons can just jump out of her shadow whenever they want and demand stuff from her, but at least she can talk them into helping her through the power of sweets .

Claude doesn't appreciate that there are other men in Aileen's life who she trusts and works together with...not that Aileen catches on to the obvious like the other guys do .

Aileen is a very practical woman. She understands a womans' strength is in her dresses and she's not to be outdone by Claude in the looks department, but all Claude cares about is Aileen's true character like the charmer he is .

Belzebuth might be a bit of a brute and have a Chuuni side...but he genuinely cares for and wants to protect Claude, and that gives Aileen and him a chance to bond as he prepares her in proper manners for the ball! It'll be interesting to see the result .

"Why don't you get on your knees?" Spoken like a true Demon Queen !

Seems like the plot or events of the game are still carrying on despite Aileen diverging from it, to the point where now she's being framed for threatening letters she sent to Lilia that she didn't actually do this time around. I don't know if Cedric would send threatening letters to his new fiance just to screw with Aileen, but I wonder who is behind it .

The Ending kind of reminded me of My Next Life as a Villainess being more dramatic and serious compared to the Opening, but it had a nice beat and sound, and the stylized visuals of Aileen being cast off and finding salvation with Claude and the Demons was quite effective .
