I don't think this is an original anime, going by the website it's an adaptation of a popular web novel. According to Wikipedia the story is: Minori, who has been bullied in all her life (on account of being sickly, poor, etc.), is befriended by Takashi and Kyouko, who want to see her real smile. However, before that could happen, Minori is hospitalized far away from the other two. After two months, Takashi and Kyouko receive a mysterious, anonymous message about a summer festival in the neighboring town.
Well there's two cute girls and a cute boy? And lighthouses and stars and a little girl who is sickly(!) and poor(!!) and has lost her parents(!!!) and was bullied(!!!!) and gets separated from her only friends(!!!!)... Seems like an unabashed feels train. |

Uhhh ... hmm ... did not really get much of a read from the series with that pv.
I wonder if there is something about this series that just does not click with my brain's understanding.

IMHO, you are exgagerrating. Most of the cast sounded far from perfeсt but on level of avarage voice actiтg in anime. MCs voice bothered me a bit but he still was much better than main heroine of Nana-Maru San-Batsu (and some people actually liked her voice acting, while I think me thinking it was terrible).

Well I'd probably say that as a whole the voice acting in the first episode was pretty below average. Clearly the budget for this show wasn't going towards the voice acting. Some of it just sounded really off. As if the voice actors weren't really confident in what they were saying.
In terms of the content well they manged to establish the status quo pretty well. Both in what is happening to this girl and how miserable the other two are in how they haven't taken action. Though understandable in how they feel bad and want to do something, but are afraid of stepping in. Can be easy to get sucked into the idea of "well at least I feel bad about the situation and that's something."
