Full Metal Panic Novel Discussion

The novels were translated completely up into Continuing on My Own. Burning One Man Force is being translated but slowly. A North American company bought the license and will release the first official English novel this September and will release a new one every 6 months, ending the series around 2011.

No more anime besides the three series, but we all hope for an announcement of another show in 2008. There is a manga but it is not really connected to the show and novel.

The manga "Full Metal Panic!" in 9 volume by Retsu Tateo is an adaptation of the first three novel (main story line) + some of the short stories.

The manga "Full Metal Panic! Sigma" by Hiroshi Ueda (4 or 5 manga released right now only in Japanese) is the adaptation of ODBD and COMO.

ODBD -> Owaru Day by Day (the end of Day by Day) or FMP! TSR
COMO -> Tsuduku On My Own (Continuing On My Own)

The manga by Retsu Tateo follow the novel, there is some thing that has been added/removed but nothing that change the story. For an easiest comparison it's the same as the anime (the first one by Gonzo except for the anime-original part). The manga is half main story line, half short stories so yes some volume are "light".

For Sigma I don't know I haven't read a single chapter of this manga.

Spoiler for the continuation of BOMF right after the last point, WARNING SPOILER HEAVY:

Ahead of Crossbow is a Mistral II "Diamond Head" and a Savage "Super Star". But judging the bad records in the Pit, Sousuke goes for the Savage first and hides within the buildings. As the pilot is thinking about if he should attack Super Star from behind, but after a short time he doesn't have to------Sousuke reappears in front of the Savage about 200m, swinging its hand and throws the single Heat Hammer at Super Star, exploding in its chest and falls down ontp the ground. Diamond Head fires its Assault Rifle, but in this smoke and heat-filled environment he can't aim properly. Some buildings are hit instead, but as he tries to reconfirm Crossbow's position, Sousuke has already advanced in a few stps away. The Crossbow slams upon the Diamond Head and pushes the later onto the floor, shaking the cockpit. The AS tries to stand up, but then the pilot sees the Crossbow standing in front of it, aiming at him by the captured Shotcannon from Super Star. Sousuke blows up the Diamond Head's parts and ask information about the situation. 8 AS left, Kurama and the Officer are together in the Gladiator Pit. The Diamond Head is rocked to a few meters away, thinking the attacker will kill him, but he doesn't. Instead he was left alone, watching the Crossbow rushing towards the suburb. He tries to stand up and chase him, but founds that both of its arms are gone, and he taunts the Crossbow, telling him to die.

Ignoring his taunts, Sousuke advances. It's lucky (and fatefully) that he can use others' weapons immediately since they're not encoded like normal AS weapon does. In that case even M9 will need to spend some time to crack that------and what's the weapon he got? 57mm "Boxer" Shotcannon, the favourite of him when piloting Arbalest.
Soon Kurama taunts him via radio, telling him to come to the Gladiator Pit if he dares to. The conversation is short, but it's enough to show that both of them will want to fight and kill each other. Signals aroused, as the Crossbow is becoming hotter and hotter, and the Gyro fixed 10 minutes ago starts to spins irregularly, meaning that the Crossbow won't be able to move soon due to overloading. Ahead are the patrol cars so he ignores them, but it's shocked to see that when he approaches the suburb, the Officer doesn't even try to evacuate the residents nearby, streetlights are shining everywhere.
3 AS are in front of him, they're Savage, Dragon (German) and Tornado (Italian). Even in his early days in Middile East, Sousuke still didn't see these combinations of AS usage. Barrages are fired, hitting buildings around Sousuke. The aiming system on Crossbow isn't responding, but theirs are probably the same, so Sousuke aims the Dragon and fires manually. The first shot misses due to the differences of the targeting mechanisms, but the second shot hits and knocks the Dragon backwards. The other 2 are still firing, blasting the buildings near the hiding Crossbow and some fragments hit it. Sousuke restabilizes the Crossbow and moves. He realizes that the Crossbow will fall in anytime due to fatigues, but it didn't. It's all because of its Operating System, which is optimized, recreated and maintained for extreme combat, and any old Savages' can't do so, which means the Crossbow may be failed and being attacked......
Who remakes this OS? Who maintained this machine?

......SEED MODE.

Sousuke can't stay calm anymore. His emotion erupts just like strong, hurting thunders.
"Don't block the way......"
He pilots the Crossbow just rightly, luring Tornado to its dead corner. Even the sensors are not efficient enough, he knows what to do, by the feeling of the machine and the readings on the screen. The Tornado is just in the opposite side of a building, he stops and fire, blowing it up from its Stomach. Four down.
The Savage wildly fires but hits nothing, and exposed itself. Sousuke kneels the AS, fires his Shotcannon and destroy it in an explosion. Five down.
"Don't block the way......"
He advances, and 3 more AS show up. He destroys 2 immediately.
"Don't block the way......"
Another AS returns fire, hitting the Crossbow in its chest. The bullet's fragment hits the cockpit, hurting him in his left face and destroys the left monitor.
"DON'T BLOCK THE WAY!!!!"
He cares not. The Crossbow's left Oil Pressure System is critically damaged, and it may not move soon.
Still he aims his weapon, fire. Hit. Kills. Eight down.
The Oil Pressure recovers. He kills another enemy, but his Shotcannon just has 1 shot left.

The Gladiator Pit is ahead, but the police force are in chaos, persumably they didn't thought Sousuke will arrive so fast. He spots the Officer trying to escape in a police car while ordering attack......

A M6 ambushes him. Its Rifle shots barely miss the Crossbow as Sousuke rolls to the front, dodging the shots. He fires the last shot of the Shotcannon, blowing up the M6's right hand. Together with the Cutter-attached Rifle the Right Hand falls upon a police car.
The M6 pulls another Monomolecular Cutter out by its left hand, trying to attack the Crossbow. Sousuke finally realizes who is he (that guy who was beaten by him in his first game, forgot the name), and blocks the attacks by his Shotcannon.
The oil pressure suddenly falls, making the knees incapable to withstand the weight. The Crossbow has reached its limits.
He tries to reach the fallen Rifle by its right hand while controlling the AS only by its muscles, but the M6 knows what he's going to do and swings the cutter at the Crossbow's chest. He blocks the attack by Crossbow's left hand, but then it's is being cut layer by layer.
Crossbow's chest armour is being cut open, and just a few distances away from the cockpit. The controlling system is breaking down, monitors downed, the legs out of control. Any AS will stop running at this point------even the Arbalest.

But its right arm is still working, finding the cutter. It's just a miracle in the AS history: It doesn't, at anytime, abandon its controller.
The right arm grabs the cutter. Doesn't need aiming, he turns the rifle upwards. FIRE!
The M6 slienced. The cutter stopped.
All 10 AS destroyed. The game ends.
Sousuke tries to push the downed M6 away, but he can't. Fulfilling its duty, the Crossbow has all its systems completely downed. It can't be reactiviated again.
He blows the emergency exits, with the prepared carbines with him. The police has already scattered around, the Officer is found dead inside the wrecked police car when he fights the M6.
Holding his gun, he cautiously advances. No matter what traps are there, he must go.
Because Kurama is there.

Hello everybody. I have some questions about FMP... My knowledge goes as far as the last episode of FMP! TSR and some posts in this Forum ( so Yes I´m a noob ;P). I don´t have any Novels or Volumes of FMP . Would be cool if you could help me out a bit . If some of these questions are allready answered somewhere else in this Forum, a copy/paste would be enough as answer

1. In which Novel (or Volume)/ Chapter is Kaname been taken away/ kidnaped by Amalgam/ Leonardo? And how much Time has passed since the last episode of FMP! TSR?

2. Why does Amalgam take away/ kidnap Kaname?

3. Does Susuke know where Kaname is, after she has been taken away/ kidnaped?

4. There are 2 Hijacks in FMP. One airjack and one seajack and both of them are during school outings right? Is this seajack right after the last FMP! TSR episode?

5. In which Novel/ Volume does Susuke admit that he not only has feelings for Kaname but realy loves her? In the last episode of FMP! TSR you see these 2 hanging in the train next to each other. Sousuke then asks what Kaname wanted to tell him back then... The only thing she then says is... " Just forget it " O.o ... xD arrrrgh!!! In this moment I only asked myselfe... WHY??? WHY not telling him ???

6. Who is Nami? Doese she appear in the FMp-Series somewhere? If yes is there a Manga pic of her somewhere online?

7. How far have the novels progressed since the last FMP-Series?

If you could answere the questions with more detailes would be nice ( Just writing YES/NO is ok, but light disaffecting ). Many thanks in advance,

Hi and welcome! =)

I haven't read any books past Day by Day "upper and lower volume" - the books that "became" TSR, but I'll try to answer your questions anyhow. Please note that if Hunterseeker or someone else completely disagrees with what I say... go with their explanation.

1. Continuing On My Own. Don't know how much time that has passed since the events of TSR though, but I think it's not that big of a time-leap.

2. She's a whispered. =)

3. Nope, he doesn't know her location.

4. Yeah, it's in Dancing Very Marry Christmas, the first "yet-to-be-animated" main plot novel.

5. If you're referring to the conversation between Sousuke and Tessa; Dancing Very Marry Christmas is the one. If you're referring to a possible conversation between Sousuke and Kaname... well, I'm not going to spoil you in that case... unless you want to be spoiled.

6. Another whispered that Sousuke meets along the way while searching for Kaname. I have no knowledge whatsoever about the FMP-mangas, but perhaps there's a picture of her in the light novel? I don't know though, you'll probably have to wait until someone who actually read the books reads this. ^^

7. I'm not quite sure of what kind of answer you're looking for here. Anyhow, FMP! and FMP!TSR took care of the first five main plot novels. The final main plot novel is set to be serialized this fall (starting september as far as I know), and if we include that one, there are five novels left to animate. If we apply the same "novel-to-anime-ratio" that would mean that there's going to be enough novel-material available for an additional 36 episodes of anime. In other words, 50 percent(-ish) of the story has been animated. (Note that I'm not involving Fumoffu in the discussion, since it's a side-story-compilation)

And, like I said; I'm probably not the right person to answer these questions due to the fact that I didn't read the books that go past the events of TSR. If someone else answers too (and their explanation differs from mine)... go with theirs.

It's in COMO "Continuing On My Own", COMO take place in January/February 9 to 10 month since Sousuke has "transfered" to Jindai.

He don't know where she is, but he know where to look to find Amalgam.

The seajack (24/25 of December) is some month after TSR (probably September or October).

In fact there is three instance, at the end of DVMC Sousuke say to Tessa that he love Chidori.

In COMO Chidori and Sousuke admit that they love each other but also that they are scared. Chidori saw Sousuke has the cold blooded soldier that he is (killing other people or seeing comrade being killed before him and not having a single reaction) and Sousuke has problem with the Whispered part of Chidori (being able to understand thing that no normal human should be able).

And finally in MMD they finally admit that they love each other, over the radio and on an open channel (but in Japanese)

Just can´t find them... Went to the biggest bookshop in Zürich and asked for one of these novels... They don´t have them. The only thing they have are the Manga volumes of FMP O.o
Well i think i have to start with these first and wait for Sep. for the novels of "Shouji Gatou, Shoji Gato" to come out ^^

I think....Kaname has become a single source...a complete goal in his mind. Maybe she is what he needs, psychologically, something whole, something good, something normal and complete. That drives him.
