Well, that was pretty good. It will be interesting to see where they take it.
All the characters are likable to far, and we're going to have a fish-out-of-water story with our MC samurai. The mech scenes were pretty good, and I'm interested in this alien enemy. Let's see where they take this. I'm hoping that this will be more mech than SoL like Gargantia ended up being.

I loved the first episode. I thought it was great. This show is loaded with potential!
Very nice character designs, and I very much like the way characters/mechas move in this show. There's something I find unusually realistic about it while it still maintains a definite anime feel. I really liked Yukina. I could see her being polarizing to audiences, and there are a couple areas where I hope she improves, but on the whole, I find her a real joy to watch. There's just something about her overall character, definitely including her voice, that just shouts "~Kawaii!" to me. The MC Samurai gets an awesome introduction. Very cool action, strongly badass, and already has promising chemistry with Yukina. And like Irenesharda wrote, this character has a lot of potential when it comes to a "fish-out-of-water" story. The mecha action was very solid and well-choreographed. The cast as a whole seems pretty well-balanced to me, and the show looks/sounds superb. I was eagerly anticipating this show, and I'm even more pumped about it after watching Episode 1.

I like the samurai guy as well, and if you think the mech action was choreographed well, take a look at all those "well choreographed" strategically placed hand movements and objects. The subs aren't the best but I've seen much, much worse. (Ajin, anyone?) As it is they are perfectly suitable and I could follow everything that was going on.

Anyway, I'll give it a 3 episode run before I decide to drop it or not. It's kinda your typical mecha anime. Last edited by Julio C; 2016-04-09 at 21:43. |

Similar to Leo from Gargantia, this samurai is in a "fish out of water" scenario. This series might be similar to Gargantia, though this seems like it may have more action.
Yukina is likable character. I can sympathize with having pressure on you like that. Her situation is especially hard considering the fact that her mother is extremely successful and one of her peers seems to be a prodigy.

Interesting first episode...I'm surprised Yukina didn't go the stereotypical female MC route of blushing, turning around, or scream when seeing that guy jump out (and around) naked like that. She actually kept her head quite well. Not bad.
I noticed many are comparing this to Gargantia. I liked Gargantia, so hopefully this one will also prove its worth.

well at least the GAUS pilots are a serious threat instead of being some sort of comic relief characters before the reawakening of the MC's mecha in the next episode,
please don't tell me the 'martians' joke is a foreshadowing on where the 'Oni' came from, along with our butt naked ancient Jedi energy sword samurai guy MC's origin backstory? |

And I agree with PreSage that I liked how she handled naked Samurai MC fairly well. Similarly, I liked how he didn't start blushing over the situation either.

Well, him I can understand. He's from a much simpler time, where you probably had a larger possibility of seeing someone in the nude because of bathing or swimming etc. than you do today. Also, he's in fighting survival mode, no time to think about modesty.

The scenery shots were gorgeous, obviously. But everything else... I'm not sure? Like some, I got very slight Gargantia vibes here and there, but this show seems way more generic in comparison. (At the moment.)
I don't dislike Yukina, per se. I understand where she's coming from in the relationship with her Mom... to a degree. But I'm also not crazy about her. It's only the first episode, though. There's more than enough room for her to impress me. Maybe. And while I think Ouma's introduction was kind of overwrought, I appreciate the fact that a) it was the guy who was naked and b) the scene didn't revolve specifically around the fact that he was naked. (As in, there was no conversation at-length about why he wasn't wearing any clothes. A LOT of other series do this!) The only thing I hate more than "omg, person x is nude!" scenes are said scenes that don't even contribute anything to the damned plot. However, the biggest turn-off for me with this show is that the designs of the mechs aren't all that interesting. There's no way I can feel any sort of hype over the battles featuring that clunky, pointy mess Ouma and Yukina pilot in the previews.

Mind you, what I see in this show isn't bad by any means, nor did I come into this show expecting to see anything like what I mentioned above. I saw the PVs, I knew what I was getting into here. I'm just not partial to the style.

Decent start but I'm not sold on the main girl just yet. I feel like her moe is a little too "calculated" and her character a little thin because they spent more time showing girls being girly. The mecha fights were good though, and I liked the fact that the side characters were able to take out the first boss on their own (how often do you see that in an opening mecha show?). Loud Naked Samurai Guy was also introduced well with his excellently choreographed fight scene with the mini mech. I also found it amusing how much the show went out of its way to cencor his crotch.
Now all this show needs is some decent subs. I appreciate the anonymous dude that took the time and effort to do that but still...
