Well, can't say I didn't like the first episode. Also can't say it was all that far from expectations. I think I'll enjoy it.
The fear of being labeled a pedo is quite the same, though there's no enhancement through an association with an actual pedo. Doesn't need it here: a shut-in otaku arranged to meet a ten-year-old girl alone in a park; not difficult to figure what the rumors will say. Doesn't help that one of the girls knows enough to threaten him, telling him that if he runs she'll cry like he tried to do something "weird" to her. The music's really nice, and like in RKB there's a strong implication that the guy becomes extremely interested in the girls on account of their skills (and in this case their instruments as well). Love at first sight, not from seeing their faces or bodies, but from seeing what they can do. I wouldn't be surprised for him to admire their talent and development speed and say something similar to the infamous line, which will again be interpreted by many to mean something completely different than what he intended. In essence, it's a good spiritual sequel to RKB, only so far there's less fan-service; which makes sense since in RKB it was a sport, which involved the girls wearing spats, working up a sweat and needing a communal shower after each meeting, whereas here they're just playing music, so their choice of outfit is much more reasonable and there's no real reason for showers afterward. |

"So", I thought, "This is kind of Rokyubu meets K-ON, then, with a let's do the show right here and save the orphanage storyline."
I was vaguely amused by the musical references though. from Kyo's posters and t-shirts through the name of the orphanage to Nozomi's bass. |

Having watched the CR translation, I have two spots that I thought could've been done better. First, at the end one girl says "if you listen to our request then I'll let you touch, just a little", and this was translated as "touch me". Similarly, at the preview the hero says basically that a grade schooler made his heart skip a beat as he confesses. This could mean he was shocked or excited in a number of ways, or even refer to "sudden shock" since the term used, "dokkiri", is often used for "candid camera" type scenarios. But instead of allowing any of these possibilities, the translators decided to just translate this as "I lusted after a grade-school girl". I honestly don't like it when translators go overboard thrusting the suggestion down our throat. It feels like jumping the gun if leaving things vague is completely possible without losing meaning, and I've seen a few stories where the next episode reveals that the overly-specific translation turned out to be incorrect; for instance, next episode the girl's statement could be extended to specify any number of things that'd be ok to touch besides the girl herself. Simply saying "you can touch" still conveys the meaning so why bother narrowing the meaning beyond what's given?

That aside, I like the crisp character designs, not a big fan of the hikkomori MC, but interested in the other characters have to offer.

Well so far it's cute girls doing cute things. It's clear we're going to have some fanservice but we'll see if it ever gets to the creepy lolicon level of fanservice that Rokyubu got up to. They seem to be playing the lolicon angle for comedy.....for now. The three girls are pretty talented musicians for 10 year olds, the song in this episode was good too. I'll watch at least one more episode. I'll probably give it the standard three before making a final decision.

Also Nozomi's bass guitar was obviously a Hofner Violin Bass very much associated with Paul McCartney's Beatles days. I was vaguely disappointed the Marshall amp didn't go up to eleven! |

Your avatar is kinda like my reaction there. It wasn't something to talk home about but... Anyways, I kinda like how they're keeping the mystery of how did they even know HibikiP was the one who uploaded TR03. Anyways, I'm half-expecting his sister to join somehow. Maybe because they're missing the Keyboard...
These are probably the best I got from EP1. This is another keeper. Man, there's a lot of comfy shows this season. (more than 2 interesting series is more than enough)

I had forgotten this came out this season with all the stuff I checked yesterday, but I'm glad we finally have the next tale of loli adventures at hand, and it was actually a pretty good start. Before anything else, I must say, OH MY GOD, is THAT the new Aoi!? She actually looks like an older girl, and like someone who'll mess you up if talk trash about his man. An unexpected, but very wlecome change. I also liked how we got some buildup to the girls this time around instead of surprise maids within the first minute, which, while nice, was a little too out of nowhere. Guess watching knight's and magic reminded me the importance of pacing.
As for the girls themselves, they certainly fill the cuteness quota, specially Sora, and are more than good enough at singing, thankfully. Guess bad singing isn't as easy to pass as cute as being bad at basketball. And speaking of singing, the ED was genuinely nice, so the show already fills the quota of good music that ro-kyu-bu filled with its OP. So, the whole touching thing was a mistranslation? It certainly fooled me, with the kind of music that started playing. Also, boy, that's an interesting preview skit! Gotta say I prefer ro-kyu-bu's chatroom. Gonna have to agree, though Sora is really close. Deadpan Hina is way too tempting. |
