LOL at above post.
This thread has been a fun read so far. I voted male. I think they are both male characters. I like a lot of characters in this series. Some, because they are not only good characters, but kick ass (Hokouro, Oboro, the dude with the axe). Some, though, I like not only because I like them as characters, but they are cute, hehe; like Eruuruu, Aruuruu, and Dorii and Gauri. I have a weakness when it comes to catgirls/catboys and doggirls/dogboys and the like. I love characters like that. I haven't seen this character in the series yet (only have seen up to ep. 5), but I like her already. Last edited by Urzu 7; 2006-05-31 at 20:11. |

I just gotta say, I think those who voted them as female, that's some wishful thinking or something.
Okay, we know they are male in the game. I think it's clear they are male. They are feminine, yes, but they appear more male than female, they sound like young males, they act like boys their age, and then people cite how KyoAni switched the twins in TSR from male in the novel to female in the anime...you know, they made it very apparent that they were a different gender in the anime. Not only is this comparison to what KyoAni chose for TSR irrelevent to it, in a way, but also...if this Utawa company did switch their genders for the anime, don't you think they would have done anything to make it apparent they are different then their videogame counterparts in this regard, even in a slight way? That is not the case, as they have depicted in the anime just as you see them in artwork for the game. |

I s'pose it speaks for how long I've been into anime that I automatically assumed they were female without really thinking farther. XD;; Or maybe not. Although a slash fan to the extreme, I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to canon, except for the veryvery flaming series like Prince of Tennis or so. :3 I have to admit, though, they really sounded like girls, to me, but considering how young they are... (?) But, they seem to be in their teens. :/ Perhaps it's just the Uta haremofgirls concept that throws it off.
However, this thread's managed to lean me towards the opinion that they are male... Besides the obvious hierarchical implications of such (and, I think that conversely, Uta opening at least for now does seem to provide ample evidence of competent female warriors), doesn't it seem odd to anyone that a proud warrior like Oboro would have both his attendants being females? ^^; At least one would have to be male--otherwise how on earth would they be able to protect him properly as they're no doubt sworn to do? If they were both girls, they'd have to leave him unattended in the bath and such things, or at least that's how I think it works--separate gender baths usually, right? Unless Oboro has his own little harem, in which case, well... 8D;;; Hedoesn'treallyseemlikethatsortofguy (more of the 'why the hell are there girls in the world' type), but I'm biased. ._.;; I doubt that physical attributes are any reliable indicator, as we've seen, although the argument about their chest-size and the kyuudou equipment has some validity. I guess the animators are just leaving it up to our imaginations/debates for now, though. ^^v So, being the fangirl I am, I'd have to say: ALL MALE ALL THE WAY. |D |

They could probably do an bathing scene, and we still wouldn't even know for sure of which gender.
Thus: Have them down one of these just before battle, thinking it will keep them fighting for an longer period of time. Be they male, blue vision, crazy "damm..! that's the best hard-on in, ever!." ...Skull farking enemy fighters at random where the standard arrows do no good... |

Anyway, the great revelation scene didn't come, or atleast didn't come at the proper time (which would have been between episodes 8 and 9), so as a bonus to anyone who is curious, here's the scene in the game along with a very quickly done translation:
Spoiler for Japanese text:

In my opinnion they are both female, i dont care if they are men in the game but based on what ive seen in the anime i belive that they are female.
here is a screencap from episode 4 and when you look on the side, you can see that there are definetly small breasts. I know that people wont be convinced by this, but atleast im going to watch the series thinking that they are female, until there is some other proof than the game related that they are males. |

Cruzz, I think someone already posted about that scene. XD Although, now we have the actual text, it's doubly amusing. <3 WanZ, Magus IX is right, er--that's probably just a combined effect of the arrow quilts slung across their chests and the fact that guys' chests aren't 180-degree angles. XDDDv Wishful thinking either way at this point, though, is valid. :/
For me, it was that jewelry scene that really threw me, but I suppose boys would also be interested in ornament... Especially ones at the battlefront who don't see such trinkets very often. We just haven't seen any other such examples of males liking to deck themselves out to compare to--the rest are rather plain. Bit of a dilemma, but I stand by my original assessment that it'd be both impractical and contrary to Oboro's temperament to have twin female attendants. |

It could also be said that the voices are tomboyish, or more masculine females. Then the way they act could also be considered tomboyish, with feminine urges (jewelry). Right now, you can't really conclude one way or the other until the anime specifically shows it; that is, if they ever will. I mean, so far, the closest they have revealed the gender in the anime is the scene where Chikinaro (merchant) specifically states "jewelry for the ladies," and it shows the twins in that scene trying on jewerly. If the anime goes on without addressing this issue further, then that scene would be the pinnacle scene in the anime to state their gender as female.
