Youtube took it down. Opening video is good, the song... not so much. |

I admit i was worried it was going to be too slow when i saw the episode list, but after seeing how it was actually done, i think they chose the right pacing
Also glad they kept the part where the nuke only melted half of it

As with other mecha anime, one just has to suspend their disbelief that something about these giant monstrosities have a major advantage against modern weapons (even the power of nukes). Since they didn't dwell too long on the technical aspect, I won't either, as it's just something you have to accept to enjoy stuff like Gundam. At least here we don't have nimble warmachines of mass destruction that don't even get a scratch from enemy fire, so at least its something that's going for this show.
So far, I'm impressed actually. Not based in Japan nor with Japanese characters is the first thing that pops out (and with that probably the chance of osananajimi appearing, though the MC/Princess exchanges are 'close enough' for me to live on). Next is the focus on the mundane parts of military life, as a lot of time was spent on the day-to-day maintenance of the base, plus them getting food outside of the standard military rations. I even liked the character introductions/overview, as neither was it heavy-handed nor was it particularly obvious. As such, the writing was actually top-notch IMO, as even the next episode preview was weaved into the story rather than just tacked on after ED (or OP in this case?). I had misgivings as the previous JC staff mecha was atrocious (and same director too), but it seems JC Staff is on a roll this year. After only 2 watchable shows in 2014, I love how JC Staff has shows in my top 5 of the cour in every cour this year. I hope this won't break their streak, because they were my #1 studio for the longest time pre-2014, and I'd love to have them back in 2015.

This was a good first episode. The exposition was sufficient and gave me a nice sense of how the world works and the characters are all fun.
I can't help but love the character interactions, especially the ones between Qwenser and Milinda. That is something that I usually expect of Kamachi's works, though, so I'm glad to see it here. Well, I can confidently say that I will hold off reading the LN until the series is over (so now I have no qualms in reading IntellaVillage first. )

I tried read novels three times, but never got past first episode content because it was too exposition heavy for my tastes and whole that Objects idea ridiculous (even though female commander was both incredibly cool and hot).
Well, anime made it far easier digest, so I am looking forward more Froleytia(?) enough to forgive that princess hogging unreasonable amount of screen time for now.

Pretty good first episode .
In terms of the Objects themselves, I liked how they were explained and how they rose to prominence. It kind of makes sense, enough so to get into the show. Things are so massive and so well armored that armies just kind of go splat like bugs on a windshield. It does seem like you could nuke them down, but it would take more nukes than one might like to use and ruin the entire planet. Though even then hard to say if more nukes would actually be enough. The 'belt' scene was a bit too much, but not that bad. Thank god there was a way for the Princess to get out of that mess since otherwise she might have actually suffocated while waiting for the MC to figure out his internal dilemma . Balanced out though with the earlier chat between them actually being pretty nice and making them both out to be solid individuals. Indeed while studying the standard might be the best for a student perspective....it is a dangerous choice. You are studying something that has a real disadvantage. Sure it can beat those specialists when they are out of their territory of focus....but those specialists are rarely going to be asked to fight anywhere else so they have a pretty massive advantage over the all-rounder type. Good start and pacing so far.

Oh god the introduction was practically "War has Changed"
EDIT: For now the pacing is good enough. People would immediately notice the Firepower and Armor, but how many people would notice it has a top speed of 530km/h

As a LN reader I'm very happy with the first episode. The pacing was fantastic, ending the episode at just the right moment. The exposition needed to introduce the world and Objects was done quite well (We even got to see the first Object). The Object's armor and firepower were both shown, but if you didn't notice the max speed on of the Baby Magnum's specs you wouldn't get how fast they can be.
I didn't like the OP song when I heard it for the first time, but it's a lot better with the actual OP (seeing all those future characters also helped). The main characters were also handled well for now, which was one of my fears for the series. Let's hope they can keep up this quality. JCStaff seems a bit desperate, taking advantage of any fanservice opportunity they get like they did (that gratuitous Princess shower scene was unexpected). |

Episode 1
All throughout the episode I kept thinking that it had that very "Light Novel feel" of always trying hard to be different and sure enough I look it up afterwards and it's another Light Novel adaptation. XP It wasn't a bad episode mind you but I'm hesitant to say it was good. The episode spent a considerable amount of time world building and it was definitely interesting but somehow managed to miss a rather important piece: what side the protagonists are on, who they're fighting against and why. And focus on the world building meant there wasn't much time to establish the characters seriously. Instead they left it up to some very stale comedy in a vain attempt to give them some charm but if anything it had the opposite effect: the belt scene made me want to punch the MC in the face. Verdict: Three episode rule.
