First image that gets flashed up underneath the Kyoto Animation credit about 54 seconds in, with the Brigade sitting in a classroom — there's some unfilled white space around Mikuru's legs.

Wow...
I was just shocked at how... depressing the ending was. I mean... the SOS brigade in the book seems more optimistic and upbeat about the challenge (that is after they get over the immediate shock). Here I was like... man... that would really suck. |

Am I the only one annoyed by the constant lens flare? You can't see shit...
Aside from that, the animation quality seems WAY up from the previous two episodes. You can tell they were trying to throw in some service from the girls. Also, we again get a loom shot on Haruhi's ass. This is no longer coincidence.

The "poor camerawork" (all lovingly simulated, of course) in season 1's broadcast intro The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina 00 can be appreciated for the same reason... (if you're in the mood to appreciate such things anyway... ) EDIT: Kaisos above has said it better than me... Last edited by l-l-lain; 2009-06-25 at 22:15. Reason: (my post has turned out to say pretty much the same thing as Kaisos's almost-simultaneous one above, lol) |

The park scene and ending absolutely stole the show for me. As usual, I love the new music. They completely nailed Nagato's expression; it's very believable by looking at her that she's gone through the minutiae of those two weeks for nearly 600 years. Also, the lighting throughout the episode gets an AA+ from me.
I have nothing but kind words for this episode. Totally worth it. |

On another note, it doesn't seem likely they'll be able to top the swim wear they put on Haruhi this episode. Chengosm style turtle neck top and mini skirted bottom? I approve. Spoiler for swim suit:
Clothing overall in this episode seemed more inspired. I'm really hoping this is the level of quality we'll be seeing for the rest of the season.

Dang, Art quality doubled since the last episode! All the dialogue was basically new, but the story remains. I wonder how they are going to end it next week, it was honestly a really short story in the novels. I hope they do it in half an episode and jump into sighs .

Maybe it's because I just finished Ruby's path in Tale of Tales' The Path, but I don't appreciate being jerked around like Kyon at the end there. Well, it certainly got the effect they wanted at least.
That said, I enjoyed the episode. The animation was nice and actually pretty similar to last season's. And Itsuki was so FABULICIOUS. and he reminded me wholly too much of my boyfriend this episode, which was a definte plus, OHO. And that skin tight shirt? MACHO MACHO MAN. I'm kinda' eager to see how they do next episode. There isn't a whole lot of material left, right? The only thing I don't quite recall is the bike scene, which I could do without anyways.

For doom and gloom, nothing beats saturated black & white.
E8-pt2 pretty much used up most of the significant dialogues in the novel, so we have HIGH probability of venturing into brand new materials on a pre-existing story. (Have to admit, didn't expect that coming into S2. Hats off to KyoAni). |

And they could definitely do the rooftop scene from a different angle, and actually show Kyon's face. Oh, and the laugh. They better do the laugh. >_> |

Kyon needs to totally have a "not amused" face there.

I'm not sure whether that's sad or not, but there's plenty more opportunities for fanservice. Just look at this episode. Pretty sure, given Koizumi's line, it's a JEALOUS RAGE face. |
