Hmm aside from inbreeding, which combines a lot of similar alleles which then increases the probability of inheriting defects. (For example if you have like 11 alleles of disease A and you marry a person not related to you, he probably won't carry that allele so your children won't have disease A. However, if you marry a related person, whom you share a large fraction of alleles, then your offspring will have a larger percent of that allele than both parents, and will then create a higher probability of having disease A. That is what cause defects in incestuous coupling.

However, long before they discovered that incest can cause a higher probability for defects and early death, it is already considered a taboo by most cultures. There are even stories in Greek Mythology where the gods punish mortals for committing incest so deficiency is not the highest priority but morality

Another story has him marrying into another culture and that God created other people on other locations, but I'm not too well-read on that version. And anyone who's read their Bible knows of Seth^^. He's the biblical greatgrandfather of the human race.

Indeed. That's true. Genes are a prominent thing in Mahouka. There's a good chance the technology for "tailor-made babies" already exists.
Thank you for that.

Especially thank you for that.

Yeah there's actually an interesting study on this suggesting that the human race actively seeks out diversity, suggesting someone more genetically different from you is more attractive. It's interesting stuff.

Not just the human race. Though animals breed with their relatives, mammals especially primates actually prefer more those which are not closely related or not related at all (if there are alternatives). If they're only with relatives then you know.

Also, there's a study which suggest that people who share a large portion of their DNA tend to be attracted with one another. That's why there are many stories of couples who are unknowingly siblings maybe adopted or separated from birth or half siblings. It's growing up together or knowing that disrupts this attraction

That last part is the basis for genetic sexual attraction, which is also some interesting stuff.

It kind of bothers me personally because I have a bunch of half siblings I didn't know most of my life ahaha.

But you should really check it back on all the double posts. If you have more to add just click edit and add it.
