Looks like Microsoft has extended its free Windows 10 upgrade, I guess they decided to do this since their cutting support for 7. I went ahead and did the upgrade and it went surprisingly smooth considering Microsoft's history for screwing up

You've been able to upgrade to windows 10 or use a windows 7, 8 or 8.1 key to do a fresh install of windows 10 after the free upgrade period ended and is unlikely to end any time soon.
