Oh goodness... It really sucks to know that things, this time, didn't start with the right foot.
I've been reading the Manga (albeit I no longer remember how it starts), and immediately felt that this Ep01 was different from anything I had read before of SO

If the director is prioritizing fan-service over the plot and character development for the characters then this can get really bad. I like fan-service, but I don't like it to take away from shows that actually focus on the plot and character development.

I don’t mind exactly the rushing in this episode because, unless you’ve actually read the Light Novel or Manga, you wouldn’t notice. To me it was just an attempt to line up Bell and Aiz's meeting to show where it takes place with the other story for marketing purposes. But hopefully they don’t bull-rush through all of it and I could use less T&A from the girls. I came for the plot, not the nudity.

Corrected that for you

You folks kind seem to have forgotten the T&A character, Hestia, in the first series. She was all boobs, butt and annoying voice.

There was like, one actual gratuitous fanservice scene (the tentacles), and then like 4 seconds of showing Ais and Tione nude for bathing/healing purposes. Hardly a massive focus on fanservice like some of these comments would lead you to believe.

And while them condensing/combining/cutting some of the early stuff is to the detriment of what the manga presented, it was clearly just so they could end the episode on that particular scene. Let's see how they pace it from here on rather than immediately crying out that it's ruined, shall we?

The LN readers noticed what happened on this episode more than anyone else, and for your information, this is based on the LN.

So yeah wasn't a good start even if we take in consideration how they wanted to introduce bell right at the end of the episode. Nobody is "crying" as you said, is just matter of knowing how things should be done properly. Obviously this can change, this is only the first episode after all.

There is also the manga readers too that would notice the change in paced and content compared to how it was done in the manga who would be displeased on what exactly happened on the first ep. Lets just hope this isn't how the rest of the eps are going to be.

I think this too. I did not find the episode boring like some said but it was nothing special either. The fanservice was just like the original Danmachi as expected but since Danmachi mainly focused on Bell's development and showing all the cool stuff that world had, i was fine with it. One can only hope the same will be done in this spin-off. But honestly, i was never a big fan of Ais to begin with... they like, took the worst char and made an anime about it. It's not the season 2 i wanted but i will bite and see if it can surprise me.

I'd beg to differ regarding this episode being a bad adaptation. For the most part, the point of Chapter 1 of the novel is to set up the premise, and it has adopted the important points--the battle with the centipedes--pretty well. I don't like the safe level being ruined in the anime, but that's a minor point.

Anybody complaining about the fanservice has apparently never seen the novel illustrations. All of which are story accurate (at least to my knowledge of having read DM 1-5 and parts of 6). As a series, the source certainly doesn't shy away from a little T&A now and then.

That said, going by the manga (all I've read of SO, so far) I want to say they did cut a fairly important scene from this episode, one that was built up by the earlier scenes with Lefiya, but it's been a while since I read it, so I could be misremembering... And it could be something that wasn't in the novel, which lead to similar complaints of plot skipping for DM, IIRC.

Overall I liked it though, even if it did seem a bit rushed toward the end. Animation and art design was as good as its predecessor, and the new voice for Riveria was so perfect that I don't even remember the original. Besides, no way I'm bugging out before Best Goddess even shows up... ^_^

Ep 01

I also did not think the first episode was badly done to be honest, and am more than willing to give the series a chance to "state it's case".

Anyhoo, will tentatively stick with this one for now.

Regardless if pacing one thing is obvious: Lame tomato<<<<<<Bete.

Amazons are great (any fanservice is welcomed as long as it's these two who provide it) Aiz... still Aiz, unfortunately there is no much room for improvement in first place. Not great episode, but good enough.

Yep, they are. I'm expecting these two and Finn to be my favorite characters in this show. Tiona especially. Her bright and cheerful disposition plays off the other characters so well, especially cranky-old-man Bete and almost-kuudere Aiz. I love how she freaks out when her weapon is melted(No! Not my Urga!), she kills the minotaur with one kick while flipping backwards, and the line where she plays the "straight man" role for her sister(That'd just dissolve your hand...). Tione going mad dog and her crush on Finn is hilarious. She punches the caterpillar without a care, she leaps up and snaps the neck of the Minotaur, and Raul's comment about Finn's lecture being a "reward" for her.

This too. I love the Danmachi series so I'll be watching it to the end, but I think I may have set my expectations too high for this show. This episode is kind of a let down because everything felt so rushed to me and it's easy to tell that the development team definitely expected people to have already seen the first series or have read the LNs so not something that I would suggest introducing someone to the series. Which is what I had to do...

Last night was Zombicide night at my house and one of my friends arrived early while I was watching episode 1. "Why are Uranus and Loki in the same world? That doesn't make sense." "What is that, a giant dwarf?" "Oh yeah! I know what's about to happen to her." <-Tione caught by tentacles. Maybe the reason why I didn't enjoy the show as much as I thought I would was just because he wouldn't shut up.

To the LN and manga readers, please try to tone down your complaints about the show. It's already lowering the morale of the ones following this thread.

Moving on, I do feel that the setup had tried to do too many things at once. The introduction of Lefiya and her conflicts, the reintroduction of the Loki Familia, the "bridging the gap" moment with Bell's encounter with the minotaur and Aiz, and what seems to be some hints of God Uranus planning something for the future were all in one episode. That said, the strange feeling of watching this after the adaptation of the original series could just be due to the huge gap in power demonstrated by the Loki Familia compared to what Bell could only muster in short bursts. Seeing these people manhandle minotaurs when Bell had to put all his effort to solo one really puts a stark contrast between the OG and Sword Oratoria.

No plans of dropping this show, but I just hope that with the intro episode done, they should focus more on polishing the flow of the story from here on.

C'mon I watched the main series and now back again for the gaiden, pretty sure fanservice is to be expected.

I like it so far, didn't realize at first that this sets up the first meeting with Aiz and tomato Bell. So we'll be looking at the Loki familia side of things in the same timeline? That should be interesting.

Also, Riveria commenting that Aiz has toubles of her own is repeating in my mind as though that's what the gaiden will throw some spotlight on, which will be great of course if true.

Don't remember seeing in the main series, that last part of Aiz blushing and pouting over Bete's teasing, went back and checked and yep it wasn't there. She's kinda cute there
