Drop the quotes and go for italisation: good endings are happy and such, but they're not always good endings.
Continuing, Ef's ending was one of the few good endings that was also a good ending.

In my opinion, both seasons ended very well, though the first had explained a little less than nothing about its plot, the way it ended was nice. Kai's ending was great, though, as it had thoroughly explained almost everything that was questioned by the viewer in the first series (I still have no idea why Mion doesn't carry a real gun as opposed to a bb, or how and why Shion has a bloody taser on her at all times. But I guess they covered everything people actually care about, so it was fine.), and the way it concluded everything was nice (though a bit too nice.)

I 99% agree (the 1% is in that I didn't feel that Kai's ending was 'too nice' - Rika deserved the ultimate happy ending after the pain she had to endure, imo).

Higurashi has two of the best endings I've ever seen in anime.

These are some of the best endings I have seen. Although my relationship with the last scene in EoE is a love/hate ordeal, hence I am anticipating how the new movies shall end it.

The series is not very popular, but for those who have seen it, I really liked the ending to Texhnolyze, even though the audience knew what the ending was going to be for a long time before it actually happened.

The first Magic Knight Rayearth series.

Once the Magic Knights discover the real reason they were brought there. It turns out the guy they thought was a villian trying to destroy the world was only protecting the woman he loved. Worse they find out that the whole reason they were brought there was to kill her since no one in that world was able to.
