Conflict does strengthen humanity, I think, so we might emerge better for it. Of course, we all say that until its our turn to be culled, so yeah. There's that. Still, I like approching this sort of thing as a thought experiment on military tactics; How exactly do you go about fighting something like a parasite without causing massive amounts of collateral damage? What did you think of my plan, though? Do you think it might work, maybe at least against a weak parasite? |

I'm watching this show with a lot of enjoyment, but there is one thing I need to get off my chest: To me, Shinichi is by far the most irritating-because-stupid male lead I've watched that ever got to wear glasses.
o He screams and yells when he should stay silent and think o He provokes when he should shut up and listen o He pouts and whines when he should act Yes, he's just a kid, but his complete failure to mentally process the situation he's in, draw reasonable conclusions and then act on them seriously vexes me. Aren't glasses character supposed to be reasonable? To me, I'd say that it's been very fortunate for Migi to be held back in his arm, because if he was supposed to eat Shinichi's brain, he would have starved to death for sure. *Rant off* Is it just me? |

He's a kid..and that means he is going to have a whole lot of stupid to go through before coming out the other end. Add in coping with an alien parasite that is fiercely contesting his flaccid worldview with cold logic amidst the general situation of hiding his status and trying to not get eaten, I'd say he gets to have some slack.
Shouldn't this be the case of "he was bad at the start but look how far he's become now" that every other MC goes through for development? And even the source manga did take place pretty far back so no author would have contested this cliche either.

It sucks I can't indulge in speculations since I already know everything. There is still this though:
She's an original character? I thought she was the friend of the glasses girl who appeared in like one chapter of the manga. I have no clue what kind of role they'll give her. There's really not much place for another love interest.

I'd say parasites would definitely be a huge threat to humanity, especially if they could effectively masquerade as people in positions of authority and gain the power that comes with it. Also, I wonder what the lifespan of a parasite and its host is? That other parasite combining with Migi would've increased its lifespan, as stated in Ep.2.
And, it's all fun and games wanting dirtbags to get killed off until you're the one getting munched yourself lol. Last edited by Ryuga; 2014-10-23 at 15:00. |

He questions and complains often, but in the end, he always thinks things thru and does consider Migi's advice. And seems a lot of his mood swings seem to be an influence from Migi, despite Migi's always logical commentary.

Haha, I would say he's more like Peter Parker. But well, basically, I think that his transformation is more organic and natural than Tokyo Ghoul.
A big theme of Parasyte is the theme of "growing up." Some have even claimed that the whole Migi thing is a big metaphor for Shinji's transformation from a boy to an adult man. The whole mood swing? Hormones acting up. The sex references, Migi's sudden curiousity of human intercourse? Adolescence's fear and curiousity about sex. The change in his physical ability? His body's changing because of the growing up process. Eating a lot? He needs more energy now to mature. The contrast between Migi's cold logic and Shinji's emotional naivety? His mind is changing when dealing with the reality of life. Actually I am surprised that they make it so clear after 3 episodes, giving Shinji quite a big load of development, unseen in many other anime. For those who said he's wimpy, I think Shinji reacts very naturally for one normal young boy getting mixed up in all this crazy nightmare. Actually he has my respect for showing enough of logical thinking, emotional reaction, courage and a sense of justice now. He's pretty naive, and got scared easily, but he's dealing with them the best that he can, never run away like Ohma Shoes or all those pathetic main char anime loves so much those days. For some reason I feel like it's like the original movie of a young superheroes (probably the music giving that vibe to me), and I love superheroes, so there you go. ... And maybe it's just me, but I do like the background music of this anime. That op is painful to the ears though. |

The manga translator made illogical and puzzling choice to change a Japanese name to another Japanese name for no apparent reason. I mean, I can understand if they were localizing it and changing it to a western name like James. Sort of like changing Gouki to Akuma for whatever dumb reason.

Another solid episode. The parasytes are evolving and Ryoko is definitely very terrifying, from her character design and to her voice tone. In contrast with Mr A (what kind of name is that?), who acts like a savage by attacking the school in broad day light and just looks stupid.
I really like Shinichi. He's your classic kind of ordinary high school student thrown into crisis and he acts like one, but with more logical thinking and willing to work together with Migi. I'm looking forward to his growth

Damn, the feels of this episode....especially during the second half ;_;
Overall, good balance of the action and emotions. I'm starting to get used to this OST now too with the action elements. Idk how well that gun can help them though. Migi is a combat expert so I think they should be fine.

So they DID infiltrate earth in order to devour the dominant species and take over the planet. Apparently, they're 'assigned' their directive as soon as they take over a host's brain. That kinda explains why Migi isn't naturally hostile towards humans.
I call bullshit on how Ryoko's mother suddenly became convinced beyond the shadow of a doubt that the woman who looked liked her daughter was an impostor. Even a mother's instinct couldn't possibly override what her five senses clearly perceived as her own daughter. The mother's death would've been more shocking if she got killed by Ryoko just because she started questioning her change in behavior and demeanor. Anyway, it seems like despite Ryoko's cruel intentions, her maternal instincts might kick in when she eventually gives birth to the baby and might actually be moved to take care of it. When all's said and done, she's still very intrigued about humans who've turned out to be more complex and incomprehensible to her than her initial expectations. On Shinichi's front, I think we've got some heavy hints that his bloodstream is contaminated by Migi which might explain certain (aggressive) psychological changes that his mind's been undergoing recently. But on the lighter side, it appears that Migi can detach itself from its host's arm and move independently for a maximum of three minutes. It was so funny watching the arm walk around like a hairless puppy but it's easy to see that this new change will give Shinichi more strategic options to take out his enemies. |

REALLY NOT a fan of main OC's and from reading the first chapter it's an american guy named thomas that just happens to be in Japan that had a similar situation from Shinichi. Not really a fan of the story. Hopefully not a self insert at least. |
