I don't know if I should applaud Nishikata's perseverance or decry his obstinacy...

Also, at this point, he might as well cut his losses and confess. It would take the wind out of the sails of Takagi's questions about whether he's jealous or attracted to her.

I wonder... if takagi can predict and read him so well why haven't realized his feelings for her, more when she already set the jelous trap twice now making him curious if she's talking with another guy, so she doesn't want to risk it or she just want to enjoy the relationship they have now with the tease, more like she can't tease him that much when they go out for real.

I can think of three possible reasons. First, she's afraid of scaring him off. He's rather shy really and very wary of the idea that she might try to humiliate him. She might think if she's too aggressive he may take the cowardly route and just refuse, which would at best make things awkward and difficult for them from then on. Second, she knows he's interested in her, enough to get interested at glimpses and ticked at the thought of other boys getting close to her, but she doesn't know for certain how far those feelings go or how far he's willing to take them.

The third possibility is that she actually wants him to "lead" in their relationship. There's still a lot of girls with those sort of "traditional" desires to have a boyfriend who takes the initiative. There's a certain pleasure in knowing that the other person isn't being told to do anything but actually chose to say these things and do these things and go these places with her. A number of her provocations seem to lean in this direction, like trying to teach him to ride with her behind him (rather than teaching him to ride behind her on her bike) or getting him to chase after her and try to touch her. If she has to be the one to confess and to suggest they become a couple and such, it'd be hard for him to take the lead and personally demonstrate his feelings, so she just holds back and provokes him, tries to make him make a move.

He's bending his head down though.

And she's really making progress. He still doesn't accept her invitations to touch her sadly, but she's managed to get him to take initiative and invite her to walk home together, even if she had to set it up and walk him into the position where he had to say it. Not to mention she got him to admit that he wants her in his life even if it means being teased.

He really is just doomed. No hope of ever getting a sense of victory. Though his biggest loss may be his growing interest in Takagi. At least if she simply bothered him then he might snap at some point and throw in the towel. Well such is his lot in life.

Wow, well done this week. Nishikata's fortune was spot on: he scored the ultimate critical. And in the process it's made clear that really Takagi's got an awesome poker face, as she managed to pretty much maintain her cool and stay "normal" until he was out of sight, though she broke a bit after. Makes me wonder just how many other times she might have been seriously embarrassed or excited but fought to keep her act going.

But seriously, if Nishikata would just be more straightforward like that, he'd be killing. It's his timid nature and his suspicion that keeps him making dumb moves, tripping himself up and becoming predictable while also attempting lines and acts that wouldn't fool anyone, much less move them. But if he were to just let his guard down and let it slip when he thinks she's cute or admit his desire to be with her like he did this episode (even if it was so he could "beat" her), he'd be the one on top in no time. He'd probably still think he's the one losing out all the time, but that's just his obliviousness.

indeed he beat her but in the end he juste went a self destruct, it was so worth it thought.

btw I was looking for this chapter (critical hit) in the manga but couldn't find it, it was an original?

Don't think so. TV Tropes makes mention of the scene, though only in passing about how touched Takagi was.

I rather liked how, even after she calmed herself down and headed home her mouth was all squiggly and crooked. A really nice, subtle way to indicate how this left her less composed than she appears.

This is in the manga, but the anime is doing it out of order. Also note that it's adapting 2 mangas at the same time. If my prediction is correct, the anime is gunning for "that" chaptet as a finale.

Well, I guess that the parts of Ashita wa Doyoubi are mostly fillers so I have two options for the finale, don't forget the manga itself is pretty much out of order too

I bet on chapter 31, or 73 as the finale, but my money would be on 31 for sure

I think he means Ashita wa Doyoubi, which is a spin off with the three girls. There's another two, the one you mentioned and one about Yukari (the tsukkomi among the three girls) following our main couple and fantasizing about them (this last one I haven't read, so I'm not so sure

)

Finished the anime today!

It was honestly a pretty fun show from start to finish thanks to the character chemistry duo of Takagi and Nishikata. The finale felt a little tame compared to some of the other episodes in term of teasing but overall, it was a memorable experience. It felt like the pair of Takagi and Nishikata were able to carry this show together despite the series' simple premise.

I never got tired any of the teasing in this series and it's definitely a show I'm going to miss. Hope for a S2 announcement in the future (OVA confirmed today though)
