I spent most of the ep (until the wham question) asking "Can't they see there's something wrong?". Though I don't expect them to be as quick as us to suspect Nagato of being an alien involved in a reality rewrite, they could fear brain damage.
And then Asakura asked her question, and I don't know what to think. |

To be fair, Yuki and Ryoko are really close. It's no surprise that Ryoko suspected that something was off, even during the first day.
What "clinched" it was probably Nagato's "non-reaction" to Kyon *touching* her forehead. Normal Nagato would have freaked out. Post-hit Nagato was totally detached. If you have a very close friend or very close siblings, you would notice sudden changes in their behavior. |

So that's what the Disappearance of Nagato means for this series.
So for now, because of the shock of almost getting hit by the car, her personality got affected and she's acting like this. I think most of the people around her, Kyon and Asakura knew there was something wrong with her, just not to the extent it really is, they just thought she was a little out of it because of the episode, not something that needed to be addressed bluntly.

But even so, "who are you?" is a strange question to ask, isn't it? |

Yeah, way I take it, that question greatly hints a connection to the original work. I got the feeling that Asakura might even be aware of this connection to some extent. I would very love to be proven wrong though.

A Cylon? CYLON!? She's an organic life contact-purpose humanoid interface, if you please!
*tch* Cylon... wannabe lowtech pieces of scrap... Jokes aside, I was suprised to see something like "classic" Nagato again.

Despite everything, this is still a parody rather than a spin-off. The closest thing you get this being a spin off of is the Haruhi-chan parody series by the same author, rather than the original work by a different author.

On another note, does no one find it weird that classic Yuki returns and Haruhi is nowhere to be found? Hmm... |

Holy crap. If I was to score the series, this episode alone would raise it up by a full point. Talk about lulling the viewer into a false sense of security... I never expected the story to change into anything particularly serious, I figured it would always remain the personification of warm fuzzies. It's one thing for the basic nature of an anime to change during the first or second episode, but I can't think of many shows whose fundamental nature changed this much this far in.
Also just wanted to say that I love this series' incarnation of Asakura. I really like her somewhat overbearing mother hen personality. As much as I enjoyed the original Haruhi, I think that a part of me will miss the warmth of the friendships in the Nagato Yuki-chan version if I ever revisit the main anime (where the lack of transparency and any real trust, to the point where calling them a group of friends at all is questionable, is part of its charm). I checked the episode 9 version of the ending, and she doesn't crawl forward on her knees towards the door there; that's another one of the small changes that came about this episode. Pretty cryptic... the fact that she was crying in this version's the change that caught my attention the most.

people seems happy that the old version of Yuki is back but ignored the previously return of Itsugay from his status of an annoying generic background character "I RAB YUU"
please take this as a joke, that awkward moment when Yuki suffered brain damage not because of suffering from the Endless Eight incident
