Artwork for the Protagonist and the heroine.

The character art by Enami Katsumi, the person who also did the character designs for Zero.
Didn't expect Enami to return.

Enami just drew the final art that's it.
The character design is entirely by Falcom as revealed by Famitsu.
But garish, that dude looks so much like Laura's dad.

Right? That was my first impression when I had seen the first few screenshots .

I wanted a sequel too!

He's only around 23 years old(28 years at max, but I don't expect falcom would have the protagonist being over 25 years considering he is a childhood friend with Elaine), I don't know why anyone would expect him to look much older than he does.

It's the earring, the shabby clothing and the smug grin.

I'm wishing for more of Olivier's and Muller's type of duo characters this time. I really missed those characteristics from Sora. So why not on this one?

This male protagonist, somehow going to remind me of Gintoki Sakata from Gintama.

Some new info about the gameplay is revealed in this week's famitsu.

Outside of Battle.
R1 is acceleration and R3 is targeting.
You can even avoid battle when close to an enemy if you aren't targeting the enemy

Action Battle.
Circle is attack, Square is deploy shard, X is evade (Back roll, Step), Triangle is menu.
The other party members are controlled by AI. You can switch character with L1.

Command Battle (can be switched to anytime from Action Battle)
A gauge is shows the turn order. It inherits some characteristics from AT battle (the battle system used up until now).
When it's a character's turn, it can move freely in the battle area.
There are Link and S-Break. Guard, Arts and Craft and so on are on their own buttons.
Arts AoE have been renewed. There are new gameplay systems like BOOST and SCLM Chain.

Edit: Falcom tweeted an image of the UI

And for the magazine itself, a small image of the command battle UI

Is it action or is it turn-based or is it both? Confusing.

It's both, you can choose whatever way you want to play whenever you want. What pros and cons each mode way has is difficult to say until we see how it plays out since what restrictions each mode has isn't clear yet.
For now I can see that in action battle you can evade attacks if you are skilled enough and in command battle you get turn bonuses like in the old games.

For now to me, it feels like use action battle when killing small mobs and go to command battle when fighting bosses. But it could be that it will be better to switch between each mode more often mid battle.

The full official site is now open, and gematsu has translated it's contents.
It introduces Van, Agnes, Feri and Aaron.

And a soundless video of the battle system.

Okay, now I have a better of how it works. Looks very Ys, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

OK....

So when I saw those images of this game, something inside of me in my head kind of....snapped.

I am someone who has been playing JRPGs and reading manga for more than 20 years since the era of Suikoden in the early 2000s, and up till now after having enjoyed countless titles in fantasy RPGs with light-skinned White-looking and Japanese Male Protagonists, now I have firmly said "Enough is enough".

Therefore, due to that, I have made it a rule to myself not to play any RPG, VN or watch or read any anime or manga unless if it features a Black Protagonist. Once I have watched and enjoyed at least 2 or 3 titles with an MC like that then will I be back to normal enjoying any kind of medium with any kind of MC since I'm already satisfied at finally getting some Black MC representation to self-insert as.

So, when I saw those images above with another light-skinned male MC getting his own harem of light-skinned heroines, I was triggered so much to the point now it has increased and hardened my resolve to make my own RPG with anime-style art that would finally feature a Black Male Protagonist with dark skin and curly hair being accompanied by a Main Heroine that is a White Blonde female knight with another one more heroine for him.

I will make an RPG like that because Black otaku needs some love too in video games and not just White or JP otaku. We are all equals, right ?
Therefore, I swear within all my heart and soul that I will surefire make an RPG with a Black Protagonist and White girl main heroine once I have the resources to start my own videogame company in the name of more representation for dark-skinned players and people.

Remember, dark-skinned videogame players exist too, and we too want to play games with more self-insertable MCs that share our skin color so that when they romance the heroines some of us who are lonely people with no GF in real life can taste our own escapism and ficitonally-induced happiness.

Oh, by the way, yes, I'll admit it that I feel something inside of my head snapped was probably due to jealousy. Because I'm jealous and envious at the fact only White-looking male MCs get all the girls in JRPG while dark-skinned and Black characters are treated like 3rd class citizens with no girls or spotlight moments for them. No wonder many artists draw NTR fanart of heroines being taken away by Black dudes and the reason for that is due to the lack of Black MC representation in JRPGs, RPGs and all medium with anime art in general.

One day though, discrimination against brown and black characters in video games will be gone, and there will be more representation for Black people in fantasy RPGs in the near future.

So there's all I need to pour my heart and mind out of my dissatisfaction of the lack of Brown and Black MC representation in fantasy RPGs.

If anything, it'll harden my resolve to one day make my own RPG where the MC is Black and the Main Heroine is a blonde cute anime White girl who wields a sword. Diversity and representation should not be an issue since it is already 2021.

I am extremely dead serious in wanting to make RPGs and VNs with Black MCs and diverse heroines, and if somehow I wasn't able to make such commercial products by my own with no one else making it by the time it's my time to leave this world, then even if I become a ghost or reincarnate to my next life, I swear that I will still continue my effort until I successfully manage to complete the creation of an RPG and VN with a Black Protagonist with White and Japanese Main Heroines.
