Basically the page said (I only read the first paragraph or so) that they had always forged their own path and tried different things, but their goals as members went in different directions, so after a lot of debate they split up. And I didn't feel like reading beyond that.
As someone who doesn't like Japanese music much in general, and holds a special loathing for the over 17-year-old harpies in UNDER17, this news has literally made my fairly rough day. Also, what the hell is ansebu in katakana? |

Andaa Sebuntiin naturally shortens to Ansebu, right?
And AndrewLB, you can rest a little easier knowing that you are not alone in your celebrations. This was an awful group specializing in too-high-pitched, off-key wannabe singing, and I'm not the least bit sad to see it go. Last edited by hooliganj; 2004-09-28 at 03:02. |

awww i really liked their songs too...
it's weird, but some of their recent songs weren't all THAT high pitched for whatever reason (maybe a sign of things to come i dunno) for someone who grew up listening to the cream of crap that is american pop music, bands like under17 were a nice change of pace |

No they aren't. Sweet Jesus, person whose gender I dn't know so I can't make sexist comments, Japanese pop music is a LOT worse than American pop music, which is pretty bad to begin with. Trust me, I know, I've listen to Japanese crap for years and only recently weened myself off it through a combination of Elvis, Paul Simon, and 90s bands.
Ah well, sadly, I know for a fact that a bunch of other bands who are exactely the same will spring up and be doing show openings pretty soon. Just, right here, right now, knowing that I'll never have to listen to another song talking about slavery or touching someone whose voice can shatter reinforced glass is a wonderful, wonderful feeling. |

UNDER17 isn't pop. It's in a genre of its own.
Lolicore. And almost all US pop songs nowadays are pure recycled tripe. The songs are all about lovey doveyness. Blah. And don't forget the horror that is Hip hop and RAP. RAP. |

The only reason I find Jpop marginally more tolerable than US pop is that it's a lot easier to ignore the lyrics when they're in a foreign language. Pop is pop no matter where you go.
Which isn't to say that the various pop movements through the ages all over the world haven't produced their fair share of good bands and songs, but Under 17 wasn't one of them, and I doubt they'll be remembered as much more than yet another generic group. Quote:
