Even in TvTropes, there's an everlasting epic debate about whether there's 'Sue done right' or not.

If you know star wars, Starkiller is the main protagonist that could practically destroy people with force powers, has so much force affinity, Darth Vader goes OOC and takes him in as his apprentice. He goes head to head vs the emperor and SURVIVES to a small degree, but still...He then single handedly starts the Rebellion, logo is based on HIS ship. He also meets Yoda. Now, is that a canon sue or what? Bad thing is that GL actually says this piece of crap is actually canon!

He's an amnesiac soldier who has no family, and feels like his life not worth to spend. A little suicidal in that he doesn't fear sacrificing himself. Often became a volunteer for testing new type of experimental combat unit (which often end in disaster). Body filled by scar because all those accident and spartan training he undergo as soldier. He also pilot an outdated I.S. unit with fake power source...

Let me modify that a bit....

He is practically like a grown up Ichika. He has a cool and indifferent attitude, he is also aware that he is a chick magnet, he is a little laid back, but independent due to life circumstances and very courageous BECAUSE he pictures himself as a true man, or what a man should be (he had a previous inferior complex about this). He's a test pilot of various military hardware, and now became the first user of Armor Stratos.

History seems ok, but you would need to explain how he went from emo in his history to cheerful and laid back. Unless, you can say that his outgoing personality is just a FRONT to his true character.

Being the only survivor and amnesiac, he's practically alone. He then quickly adopted by O'Brien family and was named Joshua, after their deceased boy (who died not too long before).

And as Joshua enjoyed his happy new life, became very cheerful guy he is, and successfully entered US Navy or US Air Force (which one is better and Plot-appropriate?), his adopted parents died.

He basically lost his reason to life.

But not so fast, there's also his friend (and Natasha). There's no way he wanted to make them sad, hence he keeping his cheerful attitude.

And he deliberately volunteer for dangerous project because that way he can keep everyone safe. But since you're a nurse, you must be know that's just shallow justification. Basically, it's his other side of 'suicidal' tendencies.

But universe just didn't allow him to die no matter how horrific the accident is, though not as severe as what made him amnesiac (a plane crash).

Even after became pilot of Hirameki (ShiroKishi with cosmetic change), he's still as suicidal, opted for going Rambo.

He became less and less psychotic as he interact with Orimura family, but even in the end of story, he hasn't fully recover, but WILL, someday in the future. Because he has returned to his family.

@ Blitz - Okay, let me re-think that. Commander Shepard is a good sue. This guy is charismatic enough to charm even the most unloyal asshole, almost everyone he meets (alien or not) has feelings of attraction for him, and he's the leader of a resistance who's fighting mecha cthulu's. All at the age of 29. Still badass and epic enough not to cross the line.

Also, Accelerator isn't a sue because he has a time limit on his powers amd his character is genuinely interesting.

Side note - Since it's coming up *replaces IS academy uniforms with sexy samta dresses and put misletoe everywhere* I'm gonna make a christmas fic!
