Surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet but all the speculation about Mitarai's NG code is pretty much moot isn't it, considering the survivors aren't wearing their bracelets anymore?

A few things of note.

What is broadcasted through the monitors is a recording. Once again, the only time the mastermind went LIVE was at the beggining. Since then all we have seen from Monokuma are recap sections and a recording.

Second. Despite what Munakata claims Tengan isn't a Remnant of Despair. His past actions and final message don't line up with such claim, and his last words are all but a testament he was good all along. Though whether it was Tengan who wrote up that message in blood is up to debate.

Munakata said only Tengan and he hold authorization to arrange things. If that's true then whoever sent Mitarai that mail isn't Tengan, but rather someone who's been using his identity to issue orders from the shadows. It would explain a lot about the underground facility they are in, that not even Munakata was aware of its existence.

You don't need to be a Despair to be a villain in DR universe. Just look at Monaca. I guess Tengan is the same, just a shady evil asshole.

The timing of that message is odd. Was it meant to be sent to Mitarai specifically if they win the game? Wonder what's in it.

Now I'm having doubts. Was it really Tengan who wrote that message in blood. Or that was also done by the same one who left the incriminating photos? With Mitarai receiving a mail from someone who claims to be Tengan when the real one has been dead for quite a while, my suspicions rise further.

What does it matter? Naegi did a thing to find out what was up, and now he knows what's up. It's not like he conjured the solution out of thin air. I don't get what the problem is. Why do the characters need to go through the same processes as the audience? The audience knowing more than the characters happens all the time in fiction. And what on earth makes you call this a detective mystery? Naegi is not a detective.

Juzo is slowly becoming one of my favorite characters in the show.

Ah the despair...these are really quite something.

I was interested on why Tengen was suspected and along with this "creating the Hope in a despair filled world" theory. Same idea as the original Kamukura project besides the "despair filled world". So I went back and check previous episodes and found that

1. Munakata mentioned that Tengen wasn't as strict as before in epi 1

2. Tengen approached Kirigiri in epi 2 probably to keep her alive and intends to use her for his motive or to monitor her movements (lol that "exit" room) though he did parted ways with her later to confront Munakata

3. Kirigiri mentioned that Tengen doesn't seem worried after they woke up from the second time limit (while talking to herself about the second time limit; foreshadowing her NG code)

4. Tengen said he won't let the original Kamukura project goes to waste (Another Kamukura being?) and there's another project ongoing which he was working with other people

5. His dying words were seems to be about finding Hope

6. Tengen wrote a death message which seems to be for his accomplice(s) instead of for Naegi like what Aoi suggested

7. Tengen knows about the suicide monitors hence saying everyone is an attacker (also seems to know that Chisa is a ROD but didn't do anything till now just to use her in this plan(?))

So who wants to bet the final episode of the Despair arc is going to transition back to Future at the end?

Spoiler for spoiler:

Despair isn't supplementary to Future and helps connect the dots for nothing, you know. Plus this way they have all set for the grand finale.

Was it true that Despair side will end this week?
If so, then would they be compressing some major events in one episode?

Yes. Side: Despair is ending this week, which has lead many viewers, me included, to speculate the ending is going to transition back and connect to Side: Future. Just like how it did the reverse thing when Side: Despair started.

Kirigiri: According to my deduction, everyone actually committed suicide, and they all died around the monitors so there's gotta be something about that. I'm going to die next round anyway, just gonna keep my mouth shut because I havn't figured out everything yet and take a nap here.

All she had to say was, "Naegi, there's no time to explain, but everyone committed suicide. Watch out for the monitors, and pay attention to the power room." Something like that seems quite plausible for her to say in the game, yet she's way too quiet in the anime.

Also Naegi falling into brainwash despair and had to be rescued was probably a low point of the show. Best solution was if he got out of it himself, 2nd best was remembering Kirigiri's words and snapping out of it. He's the hope after all.

Kirigiri didn't say anything to them, because she had a plan. And no, anyone who really believes she left herself just die like that doesn't actually know her.

I looked at it thoroughly. After watching the episode I was left with an odd sensation they still haven't told us everything. And I made one realization.

Naegi's theory of suicide is flawed. As in, EXTREMLY FLAWED. I will explain.

To start with, let us remember what Monokuma says in that recording that is broadcasted through the monitors:

"Are you awake, killer? It's time to go hunting! Now, who is going to be your chosen victim?"

A killer is someone who is about to commit a murder. Therefore, a person who takes his own life isn't that.

Now, let us see what happened to Naegi. He started hallucinating about his friends and loved ones, and showing he feels guilty for being alive while almost everybody who he knew died. Overcome by these emotions, Naegi was induced to commit suicide.

But does that prove his suicide theory? Not at all, not even close.

As Tengan said it well, everyone can be the killer. Because every member of the Future Foundation harbors lingering emotions that may plunge them into despair. The brainwash recording sharpens these emotions.

But neither Gozu, Seiko or Ruruka actually succumbed to the brainwash they were being subjected to. Though we do see frames of when they were being brainwashed, we don't get to see the part where they stab themselves. And we don't get to see that because this is actually big lie, they didn't kill themselves. How could they have done that? How could have Seiko stabbed herself in the heart and maintain that cross stance with her arms stretched out? The moment she stabbed herself in the heart she should have died instantly, so one of her arms should be down and not stretched out.

Look at what each one of them did before dying:

- Gozu picked the dagger and stabbed both his eyes with it. He did that so he wouldn't be subjected to the brainwashing any further. But to make sure he wouldn't kill anyone, Gozu entangled himself using the wires from the ceilling, in order to completely restrict his movement. When we do see him pulling on the wires, Gozu ISN'T holding the dagger.

- Seiko who was also being tormented took some of her roid serum that grants inhuman strength and slammed herself against the wall until her body fit into the crack. Her reason for doing that was the sames as Gozu: so her eyes would avert the monitor and also to completely restrict her movement.

- And Ruruka? She didn't have similar methods like Gozu and Seiko, but she did have her candy, which we were told have mind control properties. She ate a handful of candy hoping it would snap her out.

As you can see, none of what I mentioned above is related to suicide. The three, Gozu, Seiko and Ruruka, did their best to resist the brainwash torment. And they actually succeeded.

But... if things had stayed that way, no one would have been killed after the sleeping period passed and the game would have ended earlier than expected. That's why... the REAL killer was lurking around, ready to kill them off in case they didn't succumb to the despair video.

In conclusion:

- The despair inducing video broadcasted through the monitors was meant to actually turn the chosen victim into the killer.

- The daggers concealed inside the monitors are to provide the brainwashed victim with a means to kill the nearby sleeping person. To put it short, if Gozu had actually succumbed to the brainwash he could have killed Naegi, Asahina or Gekkohara, who were also in that room with him.

- Gozu, Seiko and Ruruka didn't actually commit suicide. They were killed. By the real killer. The proof is the horryfic state Ruruka's body appeared, with cuts all over her body, her outfit in tatters, bloodshot eyes, and the way she had candy arranged all over her as if she was being mocked.

I know someone who is going to agree with me, because he also knows it cannot be that easy, not when this is Dangan Ronpa we are talking about.

Remember, if I'm right I called it first.

Yeah I thought about something those lines too earlier today- at least for Chisa's case, as it is pretty much impossible to get up the chandelier with just a single chair.
Moreover the video showed no signs of working on her in the past until she got lobotomized right while watching it - why would it do that now when she is even already a die hard despair?

Also when she was at the monitor did she actually call for help, or was she giving the signal?

Also for everyone wondering about Tengan's sentence:
It can actually mean quite a few things:

'I leave the world's hope to you' -> could be...
- ...a message to Naegi, telling him its up to him now
- ... same with Mitari and his anime
- ... a message to the killer or, telling him that he leaves the Naegi issue to them.

We have indeed no proof that Naegi has been shown the same Video that was shown to the others. - The more glaring issue though is imho Ruruka's death. I mean we know the girl had issues, and I can guess that it was pretty despairing for her to realize she killed someone absolutely loyal to her for the lolz and that Seiko never betrayed her in the first place. - However her death still looks surprisingly brutal compared to all the others.

---
That is for that - another thing I see though is the significance of the video being shown; It is actually one of the Monokuma Theatres.
Naegi succumbing to that one was pretty strange too - as in wth Mr Hope?

There is likely something we are all overlooking. Like in DR 1 when they said 'Enoshima got Photoshopped' which was so blatant it actually worked despite her title just because models getting photoshopped all the time is common sense.

You don't need to be a detective to be the detective; DR 1 for example had Naegi as detective. Kyoko being the detective there was actually a double-perspective trick.
The game wanted to make you think Naegi isn't the detective at all, buit rather Kirigiri. (Perspective trick 1, refer to 'Sleeping Murder' to get something similar) - However Naegi was still the detective all the time, rather than Kirigiri who may be 'a detective' but not the detective of the story.

Is not even the amount of injuries she has all over her body what is the glaring proof. Is the way she has candy arranged in a straight line over her torso. It's a mockery, and she obviously didn't do that on herself.

But if there's one thing that is truly glaring is Chisa. She's the only one who is shown not doing a small effort to try to resist the brainwashing. Perhaps because she IS already not in the proper mental state, hmm?

I mean, when the clues start to pile up one after another, there comes a point when you start to realize something doesn't add up.

EDIT:

Do you guys think is any coincidence Kirigiri's NG triggered in the same sleep time period Ruruka died? Yes, Ruruka, the most glaring evidence that this theory about suicide is somehow flawed when you look at the state her body was left.

The most glaring problem I have with that corpse is tbh that no one ever examined it.
I can see how the hole suizde video thing would drive her in particular mad like that.

The candies - Make sense if she realized how she was actually asking too much from Seiko there, moreover she killed her boyfriend with one.

The wounds: Pure despair induced, still makes somewhat sense.

What makes little sense is the pose she was left in, as it looks more like she got held down while someone brutally killed her.
I guess the state ofd that corpse would be easier to accept as suicide if it has been examined.
regarding Chisa - tbh I doubt she would have fallen for that so easily, except someone truly mastered the art of brainwashing like Junko did.

The really glaring thing about Chisa is the impossibility of reaching the place she was found on - moreovr the chandelier gave in under her weight at a far too convenient time.
Also why not kill herself in plain sight?

Again may be just me thinking that Chisa-Culprit would have more effect than Tengan or anyone else.

Then again there is still the thing that Junko could actually be alive (See my comments from several episodes ago regarding the absence of any proof of her death)

Exactly. And I don't think this was any coincidence, that it happened around the same sleep time period Kirigiri seemingly died. If Kirigiri somehow survived (we have the hint of the Cure W) and went to examine Ruruka's body, then I'm pretty sure as the unparalleled detective she is that she would figure out something about the state of Ruruka's body is off when you compare that with the other victims.

I find it pretty doubtful that Tengan is the true culprit. Apart from the fact that they do need to save a plot twist for the final episode (and someone could have just taken his phone), we've been down the 'the mastermind is the one in charge of the place where the murders take place' route before, twice, and each time it's been revealed to be a ruse.

Tengan isn't obviously behind all this. Mitarai's mail from him probably arrived now too late because Juzo shut down the power plant. In other words, there was jamming.

The other option is what you say: someone might have taken his phone.
