I'm looking for the source of this image

This image or slight variations of it gets around a lot in the gaming community. I'm trying to use it in a school paper I have to write, about the growing trend of overly linear game design, but I need to find out the original source of that picture. Any ideas?

I dunno if it's the source you're looking for, but I'm fairly certain that's one of the early levels in the first Doom game.

Yeah I should've been more precise. I know it's from Doom, but I want to know who created the image, or at least where it showed up first.

There's a lot of variations of that picture. I'm not even sure that's the original version. You won't have much luck in finding the creator. That said, this isn't really a gaming thread, so I'm locking it.
