Looks like Compile Heart heard people complaint/suggestion to apply custom texture to all characters. Add the huge amount of costumes, it looks like the customization of V will be insane.

2 points though:
1) I dunno if it is me, but it looks like candidates (especially Nepgear) have their plain MK2 model, as her model texture is noticeably less detailed than V models.
2) A certain portion of the video confirms PC (or whatever the romaji of her name) will be part of the party.

Just randomly bought the second game, loved it, and beat it. Finally found the first game and will begin playing it soon. Having said that i would still like to punch some reviewers and myself for listening to the reviewers. If it wasn't for all those negative reviews i would've had these games much sooner . Oh well i have them now and i look forward to when V comes stateside.

Seriously i couldn't find not one good review about it. They all made is seem like crappy porn game or something. Then i looked at the fan reviews and they all were glowing. Learned a lesson i did and V looks too good not to come here but we'll see.

Part of the reason why I don't read reviews, I'd like to make the judgement call on whether a game is good or bad for myself. I got the first game last week and I'm loving it, pleasantly surprised that Kana Ueda is voicing IF. Hearing her Tohsaka voice is quite refreshing.

For niche games like this we should go to its communities for reviews and opinions. This kind of game isn't meant for general audience after all

Reviewers from big sites and well-known sources tend to generalize all games. That's why niche Japanese games like this won't get good scores by them.

While it's true that a niche game's success mostly depends on the personal tastes of the players, in the case of the first Neptunia game, most critisicim it may have recieved is rather well-justified because it wasn't exactly the most quality title out there in terms of development.

MkII was significantly improved in most areas so I can agree that the sequel can be a rather fun experience (and V is looking pretty swell too), but in the case of the first game, I'm sorry but you can't really defend that one.

Yeah, I know about that. The game's design was very mediocre in every aspect, but a large group of people liked the game anyway the strong points lie in the characters and also the story for sure.

Although I never played the first, I tasted the 2nd game a bit, and I gotta say despite the improvement, it still looks bad to me (choppy framerate, etc.)

Well the thing here is, how much of the criticism is directed towards the game and how much is directed towards the moe aspects. Because if it's the latter, it should be fine criticism, that kinda stuff is not for everyone and one's tolerance towards the stuff is purely subjective. As an RPG it's not making any real strides, but it's passable. Thus why these things are niche, it caters to a certain group of people who will enjoy this kinda thing, review scores more or less be ignored since you'll probably be a better judge if you'll like it or not. But as a niche product to introduce to the mainstream, you have to admit, it's not a very easy sell. It shows when the reviewer isn't in the niche audience, but there's nothing wrong with that. After reading a couple of the MKII reviews, I figured this kinda stuff isn't for the reviewers, but likewise was able to contextualize that it was for me. The low scores just prove that this game isn't for most people, which it isn't, but if you're into that niche then you'll get out of it what you will.

Just for clarification I don't play the Neptunia games for either of these reasons. I find the characters for the most part to be nothing more than hackneyed moe archetypes and the plot isn't exactly anything thrilling nor thought-inducing enough to keep me greatly invested.

I'm mostly in it for the setting, because the concept of a personified game industry is a very interesting idea to me, and the way they execute it is pretty enjoyable to witness first-hand.

It's true that MkII is far from the epitome of JRPG's, but what I was mainly trying to get across was that the sequel was actually fun to play at times. Unlike the first game which more-or-less felt like a chore to slog through, and it shouldn't feel that way.

Reviews can actually be a good indication of what you can expect. Speaking of my own experience, I would have definitely have reacted far less positively towards HDN1 if I didn't know first hand the gameplay was dull and annoying.
That said, anime knowledge was a good counterbalancing point against the general complaint of "sexualized little girls" (which at times make me wonder if they are seriously thinking that only lolicon/pedo would play this game).

There are points that are worthwhile but I definitely don't see the point of a review that just miss the point of the targeted audience... That's like having a pro-sonic fan complaining that a Mario game is slow as heck... definitely not pertinent.

the truth is that reveiws can give u a hint into the gameplay and i must admit that the first games timed sidequest dungeons were annoying, but the story is what kept me playing, but do not go just by the ratings or the reviews of the game before u play it people review those games are reviewing after their personal tastes or how they think a game should be and there are a few games that got good reviews that i personally couldnt stand

Weekly PV for Neptunia V

Lots of features shown. As expected IF (and probably compa) is an observer.
Few details about the interface, observer/flag system etc.
Characters with their "own achievements" that unlock stats boost, depending of map actions, like running certain distance, attacking, jumping etc.

Their own achievments thing sounds pretty cool but i hope it isn't too tedious to unlock stuff.
