http://www.hollywood.com/feature/Cou...Racist/6461379 Frankly, lots of these complaints seem to be coming from people who are intentionally looking hard for something to be offended by. |

So...Avatar just won the Best Picture (Drama) and Best Director Golden Globes...not a very good year for the Golden Globes when a spectacle feature with little heart and a cliche-ridden story manages to win a prestigious award...Is this really the best you can do Golden Globes (It was bad enough when the NYFC gave the film best picture, but at least Cameron didn't win...)? Titanic may not have been the best film of 1997, but it at least had a good story and was well acted.
(I apologies to fans of this film. I just get annoyed when average films win big awards.) |

In other news, Chinese rulers are not amused by Avatar (or something) Take this with a grain of salt. Though there is no such thing as "unpolitical" in a dictatorship, so it might be absolutely true.

Yeah, sure, give it some awards for technical merits, glorious cinematography, maybe even Zoe's performance coming through all that technology. But yeah, there were a lot of other films out there.... Imagine all the films this year told using hand puppets.... which *still* are compelling.?

Two sides of the same coin IMO - here and there, extreme at both ends. |

Read a news that someone died after watching the movie omg .
And read another news which said that maybe James Cameron took a leaf out of a French BD in 1998 called "Sillage" which was released in US called "Wake" . Look http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_%28comics%29 It's hilarious cuz the main girl is called "Navis" (Us = Navee) well she's a human orphan but was raised in an alien planet and this one look like the same Pandora's planet . And there is a Big Tree like Avatar . Then comes the "Wake" civilization which are in search of ressources and destroyed the Big Tree for thoses ressources . |

^Yes, Avatar is just a rip-off of other (better) material (btw, nice find). The late great Poul Anderson novella Call Me Joe was also heavily ripped off by Cameron...hell, Anderson even had a novel called Avatar...though it had nothing to do with Avatars . (This isn't the first time Cameron has ripped off better storytellers either (just look at Terminator, which was stolen from a Harlan Ellison Outer Limits episode).)
Being overly formulaic and unoriginal doesn't stop the movie from being fun, though... |

I have a question for those of you that have already watched the Avatar movie in 3D. Did you guys have any problems with the glasses, as in headaches or anything like that? I'm planning to watch it this weekend, and I get wheezy from first-person shooters.
