Aww, Kobayashi with that apron is kinda cute.

The episode was entertaining. I had fun with the food duel stuff. Seeing Elma showing up was also refreshing and I learn her presence in the show already.

Every dragon except Fafnir has borders/accents to their hair. I thought Elma's was red but it's actually purple. I like it.

That said, one of the disadvantages of being a manga reader is that you end up comparing the two versions and any differences could make you feel uncomfortable, which I'm feeling a bit with this episode. However, that's probably my manga biases. I think an anime-only watcher might enjoy this a lot more.

In the scene where Tohru "cleans" out Kobayashi's room, the floor becomes so waxy that you can see the characters' reflections on it. I'm impressed Kyoani went through the effort of animating their reflections for the scene.

yeah honestly speaking this not was kobayashi fault really, she don't have the obligation to know what is happening inside tohru head if tohru herself don't proper speak what she is feeling, this is really a bad selfish thing, kobayashi was being just herself and doing what she is already used to do and tohru don't have any right to be jealous like that just because kobayashi is trying to help elma get used to the new world, she did the same for tohru and the others.

I have to say Elma is quite likable and had a nice first episode. Though no doubt she's going to end up a punching bag quite often through the remaining episodes. Since she is on Tohru's level in terms of power she can endure jealousy shots without actually getting killed. Should be a nice coworker for Kobayashi.

No doubt Tohru's jealousy was pretty dangerous at times. Although obviously there isn't any intention on Elma's part to steal Kobayashi away. But certainly shows the kind of chaotic side she is from. While she has worked hard to restrain the more destructive impulses she has, sometimes it does leak out. And did lead to a nice moment. Getting Tohru's feelings out and also Kobayashi covering her side of it. She doesn't know how to deal with things like that and mostly has been on her own. Of course she's not going to be able to read Tohru that easily. And she herself is dealing with a pretty dramatic shift in her entire lifestyle. All these people/dragons coming into it and having to adjust from being mostly a loner to someone with a lot of new personal relationships. It's not easy.

Kanna was cute in the scenes she got for herself .

Elma is an adorable dragon. And easily manipulated, that trick with the magic gateway was good. xD

Shouta will get a big tits trauma at this rate, he is starting to punch those big mountain balls with all his might in his sleep to keep them away from his face. xD

That was quite a voice I didn't expect Elma to have. Quite a contrast from the same va's role as Aoba in New Game.

Episode didn't really trigger anything much in me (maybe because lack of Kanna), but at least Yamada Naoko and Nishiya Futoshi spearheaded this episode, so it has to be something, I guess.

Curious what you had in mind when you wrote this.

I love the manga. Love the way they’re drawn and was apprehensive about Kyoani’s designs for the series. … but

in this episode, too, some beneficial changes were made in the flow of the story and there is something to be said for the way they set characters in motion. Kyoani expanded on humanity.

It starts with the stillness of Kobayashi’s figure, quietly engaged in semi-private moon viewing. Later in the episode, "home wrecker" Elma is calmly sent through a cunningly improvised wall portal, to the place where Tohru first took Kobayashi and Kana to play dragon. The secluded area where she also first saw the dragons play act their impression of her.

The payoff to that role play in this episode is unique to the animation. In the scene set in the entrance to their apartment, we not only see Tohru tangibly project her jealousy, when she violently evicts Elma through the closed door, but we also get to see Kobayashi instinctively duck into a frozen crouch from which she effortlessly rolls back into her still and contemplative form from the beginning of this episode.

Kobayashi, seemingly unfazed, reflects on time before Tohru with the same expressed thoughts as were used in the manga. While Elma’s landing in those final panels from the chapter had more impact on me, the way Kobayashi’s response to Tohru’s powerful, but still controlled, rage, was animated with fluid moves and the ways she thus accepted such outbursts as an integral part of her being and their life together, in body and mind, came across so much better, to me, than in the corresponding drawings from the manga.

Kyoani knocked it out of the park, knocked Elma off her socks before she had a chance to take off her shoes. In the opening still shots as well as in those contrasting scenes of extreme violence they managed to convey a quiet, comfortable domesticity that I don't think the manga managed to instill in me.

I think they handle both the translation of black and white panels into colourful stopped motion and the animation of action very well and I think they are quite aware that all their animation is in the service of story telling. Two different media.

The manga still exists with its quirky lines and I’d say what we get is the best of both worlds this series has to offer.

That kid is going to end up gay at this rate, also not a fan of Tohru this episode, she was too much of an asshole at the end there. I get it, she is jealous but she almost killed Kobayashi in her jealousy fit and Elma did nothing but thank Kobayashi for helping her, wtf.
