Akatsuki no Yona [Anticipation]

Original creator (manga): Mizuho Kusanagi
Director: Kazuhiro Yoneda
Series Composition: Shinichi Inotsume
Character Design: Maho Yoshikawa
Music: Kunihiko Ryo
Animation Production: Studio Pierrot
Synopsis: The "epic fantasy romance set in a country in ruins" story follows Yona, the only princess of a grand kingdom. She has been raised with great care by her doting father and protected by her childhood friend/guard Hak and others. However, her fate changes on her 16th birthday, when her beloved cousin Soo-won murders her father to claim the throne. She flees the castle to Hak's hometown and begins her new life.

The anime will reunite the cast from the earlier drama CD adaptation, with new cast members:

Chiwa Saito as Yona
Tomoaki Maeno as Soon Hak
Yūsuke Kobayashi as Soo-won
Masakazu Morita as Kija
Nobuhiko Okamoto as Shin-a
Junichi Suwabe as Jeha
Hiro Shimono as Zeno
Junko Minagawa as Yun

The story had some potential. When I looked at the announcement, it reminds me of The World is Still Beautiful. It's not surprising that both comes from the same publisher and studio with a similar genre so I'll still give it a shot nonetheless.

Yeeessssss, this is one of my favorite manga series right now and I had always assumed it was too long to get an anime. Curious how long it'll be though, judging from the characters on the poster it's going until at least the 7th volume, which would wrap up the first "big" arc but that transitions into the second arc so smoothly I'm not sure how good of an ending it would have (hence why I never thought it would get an anime, although not having a good place to stop has never stopped producers before!).

I usualy avoid shoujo genre, but Soredemo Sekai is still fresh in my mind, so I will give a shot.

Lots of series with low to average sales gets adaptation you don't always need to be a huge seller

I'm not particularly excited about this, but the art looks nice and there's Morita Masakazu and Suwabe Junichi, so I might as well give it a try.

I'm really not looking forward to sitting through all the predictable "romantic" bickering and sexual tension between the girl and that dark haired guy who will end up together anyway. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong but this is the vibe I'm getting.)

I wouldn't necessarily expect this, if only because they're presented as being childhood friends, though I guess that doesn't really mean there won't be bickering or sexual tension .

After Soredemo Sekai, I'd definitely welcome another Studio Pierrot Shoujo series and this looks like it could be a very nice series .

Chiwa Saito and Tomaki Maeno as the leads of a romance series also elevates my interest .

Hmmm... Well, there certainly is some romance, or rather elements of it in the manga, and it is important, but it definitely does not define the series. And it is certainly not as, I don't know, fluffy (?), as the synopsis implies.

Because you make anime of manga/light novels to boost the sales, heck Chihayafuru's DVDs didn't set the world on fire but they did boost the manga enough to justify a second season (and is 80,000 really that low? I can hear the American comic creators grinding their teeth in jealousy!)

Some bickering yes but not really any sexual tension, Yona is a bit clueless about that (especially considering what happened with her last crush...)

I have read through the first 4 chs. of the manga and actually kinda like what I read so far.... Nothing spectacularly mind blowing, but it seems pretty solid when all is said and done. We will see. Will definitely give it a try. ^^

80K is quite good in fact. That would place you around #5-10 in any given week. It's not One Piece or Shingeki numbers but plenty of very successful anime sprung from manga that sold less.

Okay... am up to ch 28, and this is definitely my kind of thing.

Hmm... makes me wonder about the adaptation, though - for some reason I could really see this thing being mangled in a poor adaptation potentially. Well, here's hoping for the best!

The fantasy part got me all excited since I've been waiting for something like 12 Kingdoms but from the comments, I guess it's not that great. Heck, good anime is hard to find especially nowadays.

w-wot? But why?

Seeing as we're seeing Zeno on the list, I wonder how many arcs we will get for this. I'm hoping we're going to see Lily but she's in chapter 80++ so it's probably impossible

Yeah, while I can see them maybe getting through the mock-battle or fire tribe arc I can't see them getting far enough for Lily :\

Looking at the character design sheets, I dunno guys, not sure they quite nailed Yona's "I will murder you and everything you love" scary look from the manga.
