Ep 11
Hmm...I wonder how they are going to tie everything together here. That was a pretty good ep, and the story continues to hold my interest. Yui really is becoming a tragic character, though....

-In Search of the Lost Future episode 12 FINAL-
Oh joy. I love it when animes do this. The ending ended in the true end, but not the true end. The ending was clearly an advertisement to entice watchers to explore the source material to see the real ending. I really fucking hate this shit since we don't even have access to the source material. Before I watched the final, I had planned to include this in my top 5. Well not anymore. Overall it was an enjoyable watch, but since the ending was nothing but an advertisement, I will give it a 7/10. |

For the finale, I thought it was alright, but I magically wish that an image of Yui appeared on the photo at the very end or ends where Sou decides to build Yui. Overall, the series was interesting but the finale was meh.

So... uhhh... Kaori was saved but actually wasn't, or what the heck was that in the end? I don't get it. I mean if the worlds have really merged then there shouldn't be the future where Kaori dies? And then they do this rewind thing in the ending...

Well, it doesn't feel like anything was solved. In a way, there is just nothing to say, because it was so... bad. The episode that focused on Sempai had good quality and the story was actually good. That was probably the only part of this anime that had value to it. The rest wasn't good in any way. Thankfully, that weird 3D art in the first episode wasn't used in the rest of the episodes, I guess? 3/10

Spoiler for true end:
Well there are differences with the anime, but I thought that the end would be similar, however not entirely ... Or rather, it's probably a way to push to buy the VN ... Suo, while talking in the car with Airi, seems to understand what will happen ... it's also discernible in the part where Suon decides on his future career (doctor?)... That is, in the end I think Yui will be recreated because they will remember her ... I think maybe there could be two timeline .... one with adult Suo and Kaori who wakes up, the other with him that reminds Yui and recreates it in the end ! Ep 12
Hrm...well, after reading the above summary I can appreciate the attempt to even try to create a series like this. Talk about convoluted and confusing. That being said, I did get that in the time line where Kaori was saved and Sou rejected her that it was implied that Sou was going to take up a career path that would somehow (not sure how) dovetail back into re-creating Yui. A weird sort of "chasing after his experiences of deja vu" or something...at least as implied in the anime. If only they had made him at the very least somehow clearly remember Yui it might have made it more plausible for me as a whole. But as it was omitting that kinda blurred everything for me and I had to assume that he somehow did, giving it the great big benefit of the doubt. And in the initial time-line Kaori and Sou were finally re-united after the former woke up from her coma. Which kinda made me wonder (anime only viewing perspective) whether or no what he did with Yui really was practical or realistic or necessary in the first place - it ultimately comes across as extraordinarily cruel and inhumane, especially considering he knew what he was doing and knew that Yui knew that she was being used as a tool. Sorry, to me Sou just comes across as a rather despicable, self centered and even spoiled child type of person to be honest. I really don't think he "deserved" any other character in the story, no matter how well written the story on the whole was.

I guess 12 episodes won't be enough to make a future where every Astronomy Club exist
I love this ending... so finally there is a way to break the loop.. and Sou created Yui would support the first timeline where they suddenly find a mysterious AI with unknown creator with that spoiler summary, I think this VN is really perfect in picturing time-loop without holes There is also an ending where Kaori opened her eyes... now.. I demand an OVA for Airi's ending I guess in order for Airi's ending, Airi should muster her courage to confess first to Sou before Kaori did... or Airi would somehow ended up in Yui's role, where Sou rejected Kaori because he's in love with Airi good anime and fun ride so far.. confusing but I like this |

Yeah, it's like I said before, Sou doesn't even seem like he really wanted to save Kaori more so than that he just want to alleviate his own feelings of guilt for not properly responding to Kaori's feelings. He even had a wonderful woman like Airi who was always standing right by his side through the whole thing and always supporting him when it was probably tearing her up inside to see him how he is and such when any other woman would've most likely long since walked away.

Time travel, no matter what genre, always manages to confuse people, this one is no exception.
Yui has been to many different timelines, and yet I think we've been shown only 2 of those at the final episode, the original timeline where yui was first made and the other timeline where Yui finally succeeded in saving kaori by disappearing. Considering how robotic Yui was in her manners, her apparent feelings for Sou didn't have that much impact on me. In the end, it was a perfectly fine series that I'll probably forget about when I wake up tomorrow, just like how everyone forgot about Yui. |

My god, reading that summary Sayaka Rei posted shines a very poor light on episode 12. The way the anime has it, Yui was left as nothing more than a tool who ceases to exist once her mission is over, and future Sou has to admit that he was being an ass, while the romance with her past Sou has is left abandoned. (Sure, Yui might have been a failed attempt to recreate Kaori, but in the anime at least she has grown into a much more interesting character than Kaori, who was just plain generic.) By itself, the anime finale was not bad, but the true end sounds much richer and gave Yui much fairer treatment. Of course, the true end also sounds like it'll take at least two episodes, which judging by the overall quality of the show I doubt the production team had the budget to even consider.
7/10. In the end, this show was nothing special. On the plus side, there's a decent and coherent plot. The songs were pretty good, with the Yui version of the ED standing out. On the other hand, the characters were somewhat generic and boring, and personally I think focusing on Yui's storyline for more episodes would have helped. And of course to mention the quality once again, the VN art still looks gorgeous, while the show's art would only be average even by the standards of 2004.
