Happy for the anime.
New chapter seems to be about a week long return to the old days on the journey when Himmel and co are going to kill the Demon King. Am quite curious to see how that will go. The colored pages were beautiful to look at.

Not quite the return anyone was expecting, as Freiren and the party are attacked by a demon that (as far as she remembers) didn't encounter on her original journey with Himmel.
She's holding back from using flight magic so that she doesn't affect the future, I think she might as well at this point since it's not like Zart is supposed to be there either. |

If I understand correctly, she got sent back in time due to having touched the monument, and Zart also implied that he appeared because of that, which makes me think it's the kind of situation where the world or time tries to correct itself. Zart knows that Frieren came from the future, but rest of the Hero Party doesn't know anything.

The fact that they didn't kill that Demon General in the past meant that he should be in the future, but I don't see them walking away from a fight just for the sake of the timeline, so I say she should just skip pretenses and go ham while asking everyone not to tell her anything when her mind jumps back to the future and her past self comes back. The fact that she takes on Fern and Stark in the future should be because she mentioned them in the past so they knew she would look after them when the time came. Perfect loop.

And here enters Grausam, who appeared in Macht's memories before they were erased.
Even if Frieren will probably make it back fine to complete the loop, the series does fights well enough that I'm still interested in how it'll be executed. How will she deal with Solitar without spoiling her on Zoltraak? Will Grausam die here? Will anyone ambush Frieren when she's back in the present? |

Chapter is out now.
Even if we know Frieren will make it back somehow and complete the loop, they still managed to make Grausam into a proper threat since we don't know whether Grausam got a hold of Frieren's memories of the future/present or not. There's also more hints that Schlact and the Demon King already know what happens in the future, so they're definitely up to something in Frieren's time too. And then the more curious thing is Tod, who is set to become a threat in 100 years time, which would be 20 years after the present. Will that mean there's a timeskip in store for the main story? |

Wait, I just realized that we've seen Rivale before. He's the same demon that wiped out Stark's hometown.
This would mean that Rivale will live past this fight against Eisen. I wonder if there's going to be some sort of destined match between Stark and Rivale down the line. Impressive. How far was this story planned out? |

To be fair, nothing in this mini-arc so far has required any pre-planning. It's just pulling demon designs used previously, introducing new ones, and otherwise being relatively self contained from prior things.
And really, other than Solitar not making reference to having faced Frieren before in their prior battle, this seems like mostly a closed loop. But her, like Himmel and the rest of the hero party, as well as the great demon who sees the future and the demon king, likely just kept their mouths shut in order to maintain a closed loop. Bad enough that we have a bootstrap paradox as it is with regard to the goddess statue. In fact, this mini-arc as a whole felt like just fan service to get more Himmel given how popular he is, until we got this current battle with the demons. Now it seems like that plus just setting up for a resurrection of the demon king's forces in the future. |

I just think the choice to reuse the same demon is deliberate. Quote:
It was already foreshadowed that Schlact was up to something in Macht's memories, and demon attacks intensifying in the Northern Territories was established ever since they left for Äußerst. Being a closed loop still has some unknown variables though, because even if we know that Frieren will probably make it back to the present (she did say a week's worth of memories were gone), we don't know whether Grausam will escape with Frieren memories or not. For all we know Grausam could run away with Frieren's memories, destroy the Goddess monument, and we would still technically have a closed loop. Last edited by Shadow5YA; 2023-11-19 at 22:15. |

Series is on break again btw.
The scanlators played coy with the translation, but the raws specifically say 新年第2号につづく (to be continued in New Year Issue No. 2) Assuming the first New Year's issue of Weekly Shounen Sunday is the Dec 26 ~ Jan 2 issue, then the second issue should be the week of Jan 3 ~Jan 9. |

In the past 4-5 months, Detective Conan's only had 5 chapters. And while this number of breaks is excessive compared to the author's norm, he usually took off chunks of time to research stuff for new cases, so I'm used to it.
Both Conan and Frieren being Shounen Sunday series. |
