I just came out of the woodwork and registered to say, "Yes, if you translate the novel I'd certainly read it!"

Thanks! And thanks to all the kind people who translated, encoded and distributed the Anime.

Oh, of course you should! that would be a wonderful present for everyone. How would you translate it though? via notepad, or ... well anyway please consider doing so, I, as well as everyone else in this forum would be truly in your debt!

There's a lot the anime didn't show about the characters, though that is understandable.
Well maybe the anime was following the novel closer than the manga did?
I have no idea. I did order vol.1 a few days ago, so hopefully TP will do a good job with the translation. I was erked with some of their Beck translation.

I'm a romantic at heart so naturally I'm a little disappointed that Satou and Misaki didn't end up being a proper couple. However it was an adequate ending to a series that is quite a rollercoaster ride with some interesting social commentary and some memorable characters; Misaki is so lovable! Definetly one of my favourites for 2006!

Don't do it, you may get even more disappointed. The manga is not romantic at all. Misaki is a meanie there. I guess she can still redeem herself but it will take a while.

Then ending was pretty good IMO.
They did a great job with Misaki anime(though that Misaki manga is soo much better!), Satou starts a new life gradually, Yamazaki gets married, sempai seems happy... maybe it would have been better with satou confessing to Misaki.

Overall, I think GONZO did a super job with the adaption of NHK, most of people including myself said that NHK anime was going to be a fail back in July since it was being animated by GONZO, but they provided a pretty successful adaptation of the novel/manga
.
The BGM were very good and perfectly fited the show, although some said there were a drop in the animation I didn't felt it at all and I personnally loved it, the story was eventually nice though the manga is way better.

I'm still rather happy with this, otsukare Gonzo! ^^

finally saw the last episode for what it was it was wonderful. I thought the ending was done nicely for the anime but i still have a bittersweet taste in my mouth. I thought the ending focused on Misaki too much but Satou's ending was a nice touch too. Im glad that didnt cure him right away since thats not how it would work in real baby steps which i was satisfied with.

Over all i prefer the manga since it had more depth to the characters like the Nanako and Yamazaki. I would still tell anyone to watch NHK it has been one of the best animes this season. At least the anime had a happier ending than the manga, I would like to thank Shiroth for filling us in all NHK related material thanks man you really helped out with something that i didnt quite get.

Have a great new year everyone

Hi people! I seldom post in the forum. Glad to see a bunch of nhk lover. I am one of them too! I 'm a little confused. There is a novel and manga? I thought it was just a manga. I nv read the manga be4.

The anime is quite depressing actually, but enlightening. It sort of reflect the state that i'm in.

I got some questions. How close does the anime follow the manga? Is the ending the same?

Agreed, she's just human in the manga, with her weakness and strenght and that's why I love Misaki much more than anime Misaki.

Has the manga actually concluded for this series? Or is it still ongoing?

The anime takes from the novel & manga in many ways - its hard to describe without spoilers.

Indeed - its her original form in the manga, so of course its suits her perfectly. The anime just shown Misaki of as some emo depressed character who wants to end her life before it get any worse. Still good though, just nothing amazing.

Actually that's closer to the novel's version of Misaki.

BTW, am I allowed to link to translation of novel here?

Yep, i know.

It is true that anime Misaki is much closer to the novel version then the manga - though i just think the anime went the wrong way with showing her character, far to 'i need help' kind of feel.

I found the end to be quite fitting of the series and this is definitely one of my favorite shows of the year. I'm actually glad they didn't show any further developments between Satou and Misaki than what we already got. For me it would feel out of place and to typical as compared to the rest of the series which was anything but. Overall the only parts of the story I didn't like as much were the mmo and Kobayashi arcs but they were still decent to me. I guess it is kind of hard to follow up the offline meeting arc though .

Finished watching this - I downloaded every episode and didn't watch it and
then watched all 24 episodes over two days since I knew winter break
would have me looking for something to watch.

Haven't read the manga or the novel but - wow. I feel like someone
jammed an icepick into my heart.

The searing emotional devastation experienced by the characters was a
harrowing but catharctic experience.

I don't know if I can speak for everyone here, but if you've ever been
passed over by someone of the opposite sex for someone else,
experienced rejection and alienation, lost opportunities packed
with regret and times where things just didn't work in your life -
I'm sure you'll find you identify with all of the characters at times.

I know I did.

I completely understood Yamazaki's feelings towards the end and it
seemed that many of the characters felt boxed-in, herded towards
situations and lives they didn't want for themselves, with no seeming
way out and no solution.

I also identified with portions of the story where the loss of
parents figured and/or parents suffering some sort of serious
medical situation - it might have seemed deus ex machina'esque
but I experienced things like this myself - now both my parents
are gone so seeing what happened in the story was like getting
wounds ripped open again and again.

Some of the plotlines were a little too close to home - I hope
the manga-ka was able to have a happier life after all of this.

What a powerful story, a masterwork. I wondered after episode 13
"is it going to get worse?" and the ocean of melancholy seemed to
peak around episode 21 and continue.

Another thing - the music was in many cases as important to the
story as the character interactions themselves - I'm a guitar player
so the guitar-drenched, minor-keyed themes really lent themselves
to the story. There's a particular minor keyed ballad in particular
that just kills me - I have to get the soundtrack to this.

As far as the animation goes - some of the episodes had great
animation and others were less so - but ultimately the story came
thru. I think the stated goal was achieved.

I realize the manga and the novel both had different endings as
this did, I'll probably check those out eventually for for the next
few days I'll need to see something lighthearted with no drama
at all.

I did have a theory though regarding the ending:

Spoiler:
