Well, Merlin's narration did specifically said that to take the Mastery Exam, the time was turned back. The reason why is not/(yet to be) disclosed, at least as far as I can hear his narrations :S
But NEKUUUUUUUUU /cough hack cough. It is so fun to see Sora's personality clashing with Neku's lol. Sora:"What's your name?" *dream eaters suddenly appears* Neku: "Dream Eaters!" Sora: "Dream Eaters? (Parahrase) Weird name..."

Ah, thanks for the corrections Often mistook Yen Sid for Merlin for unknown reason here... ;_; it's rhe beard, I swear, and my Disney's Merlin lover self!
As for the Keyhole of Sleep, since i haven't been following KH3D for sometime (coughcomesbackforNekucough), mind explaining what it is? NVM, I just looked up a bit on more 3D infos so actually just comprehend what does it entails, haha. Not having 3DS sure makes me a lazeass, lol.

Seriously, I'm really itching to see exactly where this game will place on the timeline. I've heard everyone saying it takes place after KH2, yet their younger looks really throw me off. Kinda leads me to believe that it didn't happen in real life, it was a simulation or something. Maybe it's Sora's "dream" between KH1 and KH2? A part of his restoration process? Maybe they travel back in time, Ocarina of Time style or something: Spoiler for BBS and coded spoiler:
::edit:: lol just watched the video, was right about the time travel thing. And wat, Neku? |

Well, Sora and Riku aren't much older than they were in the first game anyway. KH2 was only a year after KH: CoM and I doubt even a year has passed since KH2 for this game.
It's been confirmed 3D's placement in the chronology is after KH: coded (which is after KH2) and will lead directly into KH3. They're undertaking the Mark of Mastery exam so they can fight against Xehanort and save Terra, Ven and Aqua from their ill fates. I'm more inclined think that Sora and Riku are adventuring inside their dreams or something, hence the "Dream Drop Distance" subtitle and the fact the new enemies are called "Dream Eaters". I suppose Yen Sid uses their dreams a way to test their abilities and gauge whether or not they're ready to be Keyblade Masters. This is just speculation on my part, but it's the best guess I can give based on the information given.

I am kinda worried about Riku though: his attacks in the trailers are Dark Aura and Dark Firaga...... hope he doesn't go back to the dark side......

Play through the first one just because it's really enjoyable. You can youtube or wiki the rest. In my opinion, the story becomes really complicated after KHII, which is why there are so many prequels and midquels just to elaborate on the background.

Heh, I've played the up to Tarzan's world and I still can't get used to the gummi ship's controls and normal camera controls. That's what slows me down from wanting to finish it and play the rest. Is this issue alleviated in any of the other games? I'm a "invert everything" kind of person. Although as a last resort to catch up before 3D, I guess I could just read the wiki.
