I was wondering when the famous "For tomorrow" line would show up. That was a nice fight, but I thought the punches lacked impact. Good resolution to Aragaki's story.

I was looking for CrossCounter but I think it would KO Joe due to the gear. Still, amazing fight. Loving the ost too.

It must be. We are already reaching the series' second half.

If not, he will gearless till the end, fitting vs Yuri and his techorganical ones.

This chapter...you need to see it to explain it, at least Aragaki burried the hatchet and now we're coming the highway to megalonia.

I would have liked to have seen Aragaki get a long arc, like he would have in the old days of sport anime. 2 eps wasn't enough.

I wasn't much of fan of this arc. I think the whole idea of Nanbu being at fault because he decided to believe a news report was a bit lacking. The whole root of the problem didn't seem to make a whole lot of sense really.

I think it would've been far better if Aragaki had managed to return to Nanbu after the war but ultimately Nanbu decides to give up on Aragaki early when he sees the limitations of Aragaki's prosthetic legs (and the further damage it could do to Aragaki if he continued). That kind of parting would've had a lot more weight to it and would've made a lot more sense imo. Aragaki's grudge and feeling of betrayal would've felt a lot more justified and it would've explained Nanbu's descent to a scummy match fixer. The match would've also forced them to see each others viewpoints better what with Nanbu's giving up attitude being on full display with Joe, and Aragaki ultimately realising that Nanbu was right about his prosthetic legs holding him back.

That said, I think the fight between Aragaki and Joe was still a pretty great spectacle in its own right. They both need to follow through with their punches more though.

That was my problem with this arc as well, or rather, Nanbu's role in the story in general. I mean... Aragaki was reported as dead and Nanbu had zero reasons not to trust that report. Aragaki was a soldier, he went to fight in a war, there was nothing weird about him dying in that war. And then Aragaki comes back and is distraught to find his "home" aka Nanbu's gym closed and abandoned, and that is somehow on Nanbu, because... how dare he ruin his business when unbeknownst to him Aragaki is still out there?

I think the story piled waaayyy too much responsibility on Nanbu without giving enough justification for it. They want us to buy that they had a close, almost father-son like relationship, and we got a strong sense how Aragaki viewed Nanbu and boxing as his only emotional crutch. But we never really saw the full extent of what made this relationship so strong for Nanbu - what we did see wasn't exactly convincing me that it was the kind of relationship where he'd basically dedicate his life to Aragaki to the point where losing Aragaki made Nanbu lose his way. And I'd have been fine with it if it was treated as an unhealthy attachment/unreasonable expectations on Aragaki's part, but the story kept suggesting that Nanbu was at fault for giving up on Aragaki. And I wasn't really buying that, actually I'm not sure I would even with an extended version of the story to play out. For these two to have this sort of codependent relationship I think there needs to be an entire gaiden on its own that explains what Aragaki was to Nanbu and more importantly why.

...or, more realistically, they should have just written a more believable scenario for Aragaki to be justified in feeling betrayed and abandoned, and Nanbu to feel at least somewhat realistically guilty about it. I mean hey, maybe Nanbu did actually just forget about him. Or maybe Nanbu knew that he survived, went to visit him, looked at his missing legs, and never returned. And so on, so many possibilities. (Although I think that just because a person holds you dear it doesn't make you obligated to hold that person dear. I think this story might have overall worked better if they didn't try to turn it into an angsty Nanbu backstory as well, and just had Aragaki be unreasonably angry over Nanbu seemingly betraying him.)

That said, the Aragaki side of the story and the Aragaki vs Joe part were really great, and I loved the end with Aragaki accepting that he needs to move on with his life instead of (quite literally) tearing himself apart over the past.

I'm with the others on this. The arc just didn't click as to why it was Nanbu's fault alone for what happened.

2 episodes was enough for me.

Joe got blackmailed in end and won't make it to Meglomania. The Director brother was a dick.

Part of me was tell me that optimist would backfire but what Mikio do was low, heck he feared that much Joe and his onee-sama? Damn at least give the chance duke it out in the ring, at least he would have been a more sore loser.

Hope next week we've that deadline of a dream, the last chance...

Damn, that cliffhanger. I doubt Joe can fit into the door like Sonic but now I wanna know if he will try to do something :X

Also, about Joe's wounds, was there a brief timeskip to heal them all? I think he could get chronic traumatic encephalopathy similar to the original Joe based on previous fights.

They did a neat job at getting me hyped for Joe's match but then the ending happened....

I feel really bad for Joe tbh. The boxing world is already a tough place but that made it much worse, especially for him. I'd love to see him step into the ring again and prove everyone in the world what he is capable of.

To see a match end that way...ouch.

Aren't they kinda going to get killed if they can't enter Megalonia? Nanbu should have just risked it all and bet on Joe's popularity.

I wonder how they'll come back from this.

Joe popularity might be the key for next week because currently he's the people champion and the masses want him in Megalo Mania. That dick blackmailing will come back to bite because people might talk and call him a lair.
