Spoiler for "Wheel of Catherine" and "Twelve Apostles Martyr":

Lucia uses a large carriage wheel as focus of her magic; the wheel based on the legend of Catherine of Alexandria. In the past, many Saints are martyred or executed, in this history full of torture and executions, the shadow of a wheel can be seen. But in many legends, the wheel mysteriously explodes the moment it touches a Saint. Notably, when St Catherine was executed, the shrapnel of the exploded wheel even kills the four thousand people who were there watching her execution.

In this case, it's an attack that make her huge wooden wheel exploded into a hundred of sharp fragments, then use those fragments to attack like a shotgun. All the fragments will come back to her and reconstructed as a wheel via her command.


Angelene's magic is base on the "Twelve Apostles Martyr". The coin bags are represent Matthew, one of the twelve Apostles. He once beat two fire dragons using just the Cross and prayer. Infusing Angelic power into the coin bags can change them into aerial weapons that will automatically lock on to enemies. But the method is too crude. The chant is too long, and it’s not really a secret code, so Index could easily hijack them. These bags of gold act as projectiles which glow with the colors of each of the Four Elements: Water, Fire, Earth and Air.

Orsola's quite the looker underneath her coif and veil lol, especially when compared against the ones we've been shown so far. I'd have said Luccia but then she went batshit insane from being touched by a mere non-believer lol. Thanks for the info on their magic, that was an interesting read! It's stuff like that I found interesting about the To Aru-verse in the first place.

The animation and sound effects were the problem with the take-downs. It's not unlikely, but it's portrayed with so little 'umph!' to the scene, more like a play-tackle than a spearing dive. It seems to be a consistent matter with episode 3, really. The overall storyboarding wasn't as great as it could had been. It's partly due to the hectic pace, but the way it's presented did not give a strong, hard-hitting impression overall.

I always had a problem with Index's take-downs or 'thuds', and it seems it's still present in Season II. It just doesn't look or sound convincing enough, speaking of sounds, I did like that piece they played when Touma was chased around by Amakusa people.

Also why was Index able to control the powers of Lucia? Was it due to her being a saint too? Or like you explained? I mean Index hijacking the Golem was surprising too you know.

You mean Angelene? Or do you mean why she wasn't able to? Anyway there's no reason why she couldn't control the wheel, I suppose Angelene is easier to pick on

What Index manipulated wasn't exactly the spell, but the mind of the spellcaster. When I say don't think of something, you'll think of them. Those seemingly random alphabets she call out are meant to 'jam' the thoughts of the caster unconsciously. Recalling the Golem, she was only able to hijack it when it was in Manual control, once it switched to automated, she couldn't use Spell Intercept. Of course this requires knowledge about the spell you intend to hack..

damn. what a plot twist in the end. as for the nun who got touched by a "nonbeliever" who went totally apeshit is something you do not see in anime or real life everyday

Ehh, the episode is a bit disappointing for me. I mean, I know that one of the characteristics of Index is to have more speech even during the action, but like serenade_beta said, for a major confrontation between two major forces, it really doesn't feel chaotic at all. I was expecting something more along the line of the Kaori flashback they show there, but that's too short...

The floor also seems to have special magic or something, all it takes is a take down to the floor to knock both enemy combatants...well, the novel explanations make a bit more sense, but I don't think the animated adaptation portrayed it quite well, really. Oh well, at least they're still loyal to the material, some info are not given due to time and that's understandable, nice to see Index finally contributing to the fight too, even for a little bit. Hopefully, the action will be much better in the next episode...

Saiji's shoelaces were indeed untied. There is a reason for it I don't think will be revealed or explained... for an extreme example, take a look at Kanzaki Kaori's clothes (the ones she wears today not back then as Priestess-sama), they aren't exactly normal.
Now I don't mean the way it looks unique but rather, it is the way it is for a special purpose.
That is part of the Amakusa Style. Instead of "clothes make the people" it's more like "clothes make the skills".

Saiji thought that the real threat is the fire sword so he cast a fire resistant spell on himself and ignore Touma but that's his mistake. Underestimating the fist of the young lad.
