Okay, apparently this episode was the end of the second arc. Now I sort of regret reviewing it on the previous episode forum.
With that said, this episode explained some things, but a lot of scenes seemed to have been put into it just because they can. Very few of them were all that effective. Additionally, the flashback didn't do much for me, as while I knew that Shu and Gai knew each other when they were young thanks to some credits, it didn't have any impact on how they acted throughout the first half one bit. I guess you can say Gai was harsh to Shu in the first episode because they switched roles and all, but like Shu and Inori, their relationship was nonexistent for pretty much the entire first half. Flashbacks like these only work if there is a current relationship between the characters. At least, for me. Of course, I hate the motivations of the bad guys (why do you want to destroy the world?), I hate that new Void user, I don't exactly get how Gai can move after his void was pulled (holding hands apparently negates the effect?), and I HATE Mana. It's like somebody took Namie Yagiri and made her just a boring over-the-top incestuous sister instead of a crafty, but entertaining psycho. So what did I like? The idea of Shu being brave while Gai was a wimp, only for that to be reversed in their teen years was pretty cool. I don't think it was that effective because I didn't like them in the first half, but it's a great idea that needed better characters to pull off. Aside from that though, besides some moments where I did care a little bit about what happened, I just thought this whole episode was exposition on autopilot. The reason Shu forgot was kind of weak, the characters were too weak to pull this episode off effectively, the reveals weren't very interesting, and it didn't improve on or make unique anything that has already been done in past anime or movies. 6/10 for me. Hopefully, the next arc will be better now that all this development occurred.

well this ep pretty much explained all the past memories, and i ended up being hit and miss with my predictions. Got inori right, but didnt expect mana to actually be his sister or that she'd be some crazy alien hybrid that wanted to create a new race with her brother (blood related or not). Not to thrill about him being able to completely forget he had a sister or that his mom is either his step or adoptive parent. Would like to know more about his father and the origins of Mana. Also did she get infected from Gai or where? never really explained that part.
Not sure where they go from here, or what they will end up doing with inori. I know u still have bushy brows and segai floating around. I guess Haruka was able to listen in to the events so id assume she knows shu remembers? Seems odd that theyd completely erase mana and gai from existence. I figured mana's soul would still play a part since the goal seems to make some new form of human. Well anywho i did enjoy the episode and looking forward to the next arc haha i did notice something else a bit humorous at the end of the episode. Gai's jacket somehow flies up and enters shu's escape bubble, so i wonder if ol shus gonna be pimping around in his new jacket in the following eps

MFW this episode. WHAT.
The Mana thing got solved awfully fast. Guess we must go DEEPER. Edit: I'm sorry guys...but I can't take this anymore. From this episode on, I've stopped watching this for the plot already. I'm just gonna have fun seeing the writers push crazier boundaries than they did in Code Geass and admire the glorious trainwreck. Last edited by com_gwp; 2012-01-12 at 20:24. |

Oh hell.
That was really something. I don't remember when I've laughed so much in my life. It was a positively therapeutic experience. Every single line of dialogue that came out of Mana's mouth made me tear up. I was hyperventillating by the end and my chest was hurting. My GOD. 10/10 If every episode of Guilty Crown was this good then it'd be the most hilarious anime ever.

At that point, Shu already has obtained King mode, which effectively meant that Keido no longer had the right to become king. Shu is now Daath's focus, and Keido was no longer needed.

The Lost Christmas
The waiting for the hiatus to end paid off very well.
This episode solved many answers as to the relation that Gai and Shuu actually had connected all along in their childhood. They also answered the mystery about Inoris' origin, and the trigger to the Lost Christmas breakout from ten years ago. Spoiler:

Its looking like haruka is gonna have to do some explaining in the 2nd half of the story also thinking Gai did work for GHQ which would explain his skillz, knowledge of voids, and having inori. I am guessing once he learned of their true motive and the creation of inori he took her and formed his own group to save mana.

Good finish, as some said before me it could easily end now, with town in rumbles, threat destroyed while there still some foreshadowing for the future.
Most of the revelations could be predicted before -gai shu relationship -mana being the sister, and also in love -haruka being a new mother (she's kinda young ...). Now we will see what happens next. Who is the new void user: a) alien being overwatching human evolution trough voids (aka helping both sides) b)Shu father reincarnation or body replacement (deadman wonderland main baddie huhuhu) c)something completely different Hmmmmmmm this shows has its goods and its bads but still I deem it more worthy than most of the shows last/this season, as long as you look past some *situations* with power usage, its really a good story. |

Route 1 If anime become shit after ep 12, we pretend it ended at ep 12 and rest was just a dream. Route 2 If anime becomes good then we are happy and consider it a 2 cour series which was slow at start with a *wtf hero of the week* which became a great story later. |

I just hope Shu finding the background behind the truth about Mana from Haruka won't raise her death flag not much about GHQ, but because Daath's still out there. |
