Well, I have rewatched the first part and compared with the original series.
"ZAFT soldier that was with Athrun" should refer the whole new 55-second sequence of the preparation of Heliopolis infiltration of Athrun and his elite friends. Miguel went to his GINN and the rest broaded a dropship. The face of Rusty and his orange hair (hence his name, maybe) were seen for the first time while conversing with Athrun and Yzak inside the dropship and Miguel inside GINN's cockpit. The scenes on Kira and friends in the lab before the bombs went off and the debut of Cagalli were redone and told differently from the series with new footage. Newtype effect was added when Mwu first sensed Klueze off his sight. The scenes when Fllay emerged from the life pod and then hugged Kira from episode 4 were redone and retold. Apparently Kira had his cheeks turn red when being hugged. A new 30-second sequence of interaction between Fllay and Ssigh was introduced starting from Fllay leaving Kira after being called by Ssigh. The long conversation between Athrun and Klueze about the pilot of Strike Gundam was cut into 10-second flashback and was inserted into the scene when Athrun lying and thinking about the loss of Rusty and Miguel (episode 4). The scene Athrun taking a shower (episode 8) was lengthened and inserted with memory clips of his parents. The face of his mother was presented for the first time. This sequence and the subsequent squence that he learned about the missing of Lacus were almost totally remade (his room and his desk including an under-construction blue Haro were redrawn) and were relocated to be ahead of hatch opening sequence of Lacus's life pod (episode 7). New 25-second fun scene of Lacus leaving her room to the cafeteria was added. New 8-second scene of Kuzzy and Murrue in the bridge were added before Vesalius scene (episode 8). New 10-second meeting scene among Klueze, Athrun, and soldiers and launch scene of a GINN were added before the launch of Aegis (episode 9). Athrun's clips were inserted to the scene Kira and Lacus were talking about him beside Arch Angel's windows. That should be likely complete or almost..., for part 1. Yup, I guess so... You don't need a Japanese OS to use Winny though... You just need Windows XP with Japanese installed, and then switch the regional setting to Japanese.
Anyway, I just saw it... I can understand why it's not a movie now... It just doesn't have the whole "epic" feel of a movie, everything's just stuffed together. But anyway, I guess the new scenes should be good enough a reason to watch this... Some more notes: 1) Athrun talks with Kira inside Heliopolis, and then he went back to PLANT so the next time they meet in this is when Fllay's father dies and Lacus was captured 2) Kira and Cagalli had more interaction in the beginning... 3) Spent a bit of time doing the "bounce"

The movie must have different ways to tell the story. Anyway they have the footage twice the series.... Bringing up the plamo sales a bit then Barry the chopper will do. |

That sounds pretty good, I finished watching the series few days ago, thought it was great, except for Episode 26. Anyhow, how would I be able to obtain the Special Edition DVD? I live in the states and don't understand Japanese. I hope they made the ending longer in Part 2, I want to see what happens after the sieze fire.

I'd say that making the Seed special edition pretty much makes a second season of Gundam Seed almost a certainty. Otherwise why go through the trouble of making a compilation of the series, a five minute OVA taking place after the events of episode 50 which apparently shows Yzak as one of the new leaders of Z.A.F.T and a possible alternate ending to the show as well. If you ask me, I'd say that makes SEED 2 a done deal. All we gotta do now is wait and see.
As for the special itself, I'd say if your a hardcore fan of Gundam SEED, you should probably get a hold of it, otherwise don't waste your time. The new song in part two is cool, and in most instances, the voices were re-done for the main characters as well as seiyuu replacements for Nichol and Aisha. Personally I didn't like the special all that much, but then again, I really didn't like the first half of Gundam SEED anyways. So hopefully the next two parts that cover the second half of SEED will be better. Maybe they'll explain how Fllay and Kruze are connected, if Milly & Diakka hook up or give us a little backround of those 3 psycho Gundam pilots of the Alliance. |

As Fukuda indicated, he just thought it'd be cool to have a compilation of the series. And the new ending is just a tag on to increase DVD 13 sales. I don't see how either of these might be proof of a Seed sequel. They made a Turn A compilation movie too... But that really didn't mean anything for a Turn A sequel.
