Shikioriri is a collaboration between Comix Wave Films (who have produced all of Shinkai's movies, that's why it may have a bit of the vibe) and Shanghai-based Haoliners Animation League, produced by Chinese video sharing site bilibili.

The movie consists of three short stories, all set in China, linking the pasts and presents of their protagonists, with each of the short stories being directed by a different director (two Chinese, one Japanese).

I've heard dates for an August 4 release. Hopefully, there will be concurrent BD releases, as this looks gorgeous and I have no intention of waiting more than a year to check this out.

I have watched and I didn't like it. Yes the visuals were great but story telling sucked. Were they trying to copy "5cm per second"!? They failed.

That's correct. The thread title has been updated to reflect this

I've had a chance to sit down and watch the movie again, and there's quite a bit going on, which makes the film feel very turbulent. It's not something that can be enjoyed conventionally, but there are many interesting subtleties in the film that made it worthwhile for me.

Third story really brought back 5cm/s PTSD. Glad to see they met up again in the end, so at the very least their friendship is still there. And it looks like neither is in a relationship, so the implication of "Shanghai Love Story" is still there. XD

Overall, nice visuals and it's a nice change of pace. Haven't really had true mundane SoL anime recently, as this category has been totally crowded out by Cute Girls Doing Cute Things anime, so I'm grateful for this.
