I believe that for an adaptation of a comedy manga, the most important thing is to be able to capture the comedy of the source, and this they have achieved, not to mention that the art is consistent and even the funny faces are the same as the manga. Personally I do not see problem with the quality of the animation and art in this question, maybe because it is not a series that needs a great animation to work, If it were a series like OPM or Mob, it would be another story ...

Yeah. You are right. But it kinda felt right.
Although, if one wants to nitpick it kinda opens the plothole (if one even cares for such in a comedy) on how they didn't get introduced sooner. This way she had a dive and then somehow completely missed Iori while cleaning her equipment and went to town. PS: Seems next episode will cover the first dive and the start of the festival arc.

Also the characters have been aged up a year or two from the manga to make them legal. In the manga there is straight up underage drinking which seems to be pretty taboo in anime except for when a character accidentally drinks alcohol or gets drunk off non-alcoholic drinks. |

Also anime puts ages in obvious titles and has that extended warning at the start.
Manga doesn't bother with any of that. Also given that they are just starting uni, they would be a bit old for that if they actually were 20 as anime claims.

Unless they have had repeated academic years, none of the four protagonists (Iori, Chisa, Aina and Kouhei) are supposed to be 19+ which would make it illegal for them to drink. The manga doesn't really bother about it. However, since it is a TV anime, they decided to put the notice up that the characters are of legal age (20+) to avoid complications from the broadcasting restrictions.

As someone who has liver problems (ie. can't drink unless I want to KMS), I personally couldn't get into the Grand Blue manga despite having the same humour as BakaTest, so maybe I got into like less than 10 chapters? I'll give it a second round this time as it looks like they inserted one scene when Chisa and MC were kids, which I DISTINCTLY remember because for being childhood friends, the writer didn't bother AT ALL with that angle with the few chapters I read. Glad to see the anime makers decide to spice it up this time around. XD
