Anime where death is portrayed as something good

As the title suggests, I am looking for something quite specific.

Usually, deaths in popular fiction are felt to be something negative by the dying, the grieving and the viewership alike.

I am looking for anime where death comes to characters who welcome it. Be it that they have made peace with the world, or that death allows them to escape a horrible existence.

I'm not looking for anime where the heroes rejoice in the villains' death; nor am I looking for tragic heroes dying in order to protect their loved ones (ie. cases where one party benefits from the death of another). The former is the crux of most fantasy narratives, the latter a common cliche. Anime abounds in both, so that wouldn't be so hard to find.

Help?

You might take a look at Kamisama no Inai Nichiyōbi ("Sunday without God").

I'm assuming you accept stories where ghosts need to resolve their regrets and move on?

Although the death only applies to one character, said character is a ghost and their need to resolve their death is what the story is about in Ano Hana. I recommend this show the most.

Very few welcome death in Casshern Sins but its concept is explored quite thoroughly and it's generally portrayed as an important necessity towards the end of the show. No ghosts.

If you want a show about making peace with regrets then Angel Beats is exactly that. They're all technically dead though.

I think Haibane Renmei explores this theme quite well.

Perhaps the best series I can think of for this is Shigofumi, while not all the arcs quite fit it, overall it has a few that should and is about acceptance of death in general.

While not an overall part of these shows they fit this to some degree Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica, Monogatari series, and Shinsekai yori they each have a particular part/s where it shows it this way in.

Hmm... a hard request.

I second Angel Beats and Ano Hana

I guess if you squint, Madoka Magica fits (for at least one of the characters).

Read Or Die (OVA) might also count for one of the characters.

Also, Les Miserables (there is an anime masterpiece theater series)

Neon Genesis Evangelion climaxes to the strains of "Come Sweet Death"

These are some great recommendations. My request ended up being more mainstream than I thought ...
I think I've enough material to watch for the coming months.

Thanks everybody!

If you've never seen it, check out the TV series Dead Like Me. It's basically about a girl who starts living her life after she's dead. lol. One of my favorite shows.
