Come on, you should know Votoms is a different kettle of fish from Gundam and its ilk that Nanoha draw from.
It was the implication that not giving the main characters special snowflake units is a writing flaw that bugged me, and that was the first thing that came to mind.

Agreed, specially considering it was sucessfully applied on every past installement of the franchise before FORCE. Having the characters use common weaponry gives the feeling anyone could take care of the Huckebein and rest importance to the main characters, they're not heroes, they're just disposable tools.

Yeah, it's not like the characters of Nanoha ever used nearly identical devices before!

Come on Kaijo, you're better than that. Two people using the same item because of their family history is a way different thing from mass productons that thousands or millions will get their hands on.

It could be the logical progression of the story, the prototype were field tested and now they are moving to another stage of developpement.

Still, don't forget all the grunt mages who use generic staves and spears.

This is only true before capitalism kicks in and starts cutting the production costs to maximize gain, while reducing quality. ^^

Yeah we've been discussing it for a few pages now. Or rather arguing with Aki about it.

You have a point, but identical devices (or two or more people using similar devices), isn't a new concept to Nanoha. And as Raiser pointed out, all the staves the grunts use (and all the spears the belken grunts use).

Heck, having an unique intelligent device is considered unusual, remember?

Yeah because the staffs used by grunts are just the same as Raising Heat. Heck, even Chrono have an Ace Custom storage device xDU And belkan basic spears are troughly different from the mighty armed devices held by the Wolkenritter xD

Subaru/Ginga's case doesn't hold water since both revolver knuckles are part of the same original equipement. Ther basically using two halfs of the same weapon. And Nove is a clone of one of the heroes which seems legit to me ...and it was also stated not anyone can use the Reolver Knuckles. Subaru and Ginga can only use one each which mantain certain level of uniqueness to the device. Shari also made the calibers with the same concept in mind. And it was also the reason for the uniqueness of the AEC-Sword Breaker. Subaru and only Subaru can use that weapon.

Nanoha was full of special snowflakes before, that's why it makes so disturbing seeing that suddenly changed. If the heroes aren't anything special what's the purpouse of following their story? They could be any TSAB grunt with barely a difference on the plot xDU

... so now you're saying that because the cast has to use standardized equipment, they're no longer "special"?

It depends alot of which market segment the contractor is aiming, some do like to put expensive, cutting edge toy to show off their skills.

At least combat-wise, if the credit of a job goes mainly to an equipement anyone can use then yeah, the people holding it isn't that "special" xDU

But the "cutting edge" part would make their products prototypes again, rather than mass produced models. ^^;

No, or you have a weird definition of the term prototype.

Well, it also depend on the route Tsuzuki wants to take.

We have "Super Prototypes" which are those ones that for one reason or another are far superior from the mass production models and just ocassionally have one or two major setbacks to justify why the final models didn't replicated their awesomeness.

And we have the "Flawed Prototype" a more realistical approach when the prototype model is full of flaws and miscalculations and serves the puspouse prototypes usually do: to improve the design for the mass production models.

This is the route Tsuzuki took which means the comercial Raptors will probably end up actually BETTER equipped than the heroes xDU

Don't underestimate the skill the of the one holding it. Anyone can fire a gun but it takes more than that to fire it well.

Also, variety in Nanoha?

Nanoha - fires energy orbs and beams
Fate - fires energy orbs and beams... except they're YELLOW!
